Over the past couple of years, Oklahoma Sooners softball star Alyssa Brito has made quite the name for herself on the field. However, Brito Maintains that her identity ultimately rests in Jesus Christ and his work on the cross for all of mankind.
During an interview last year, the softball standout explained that her “trust in God has grown so much more, and I feel like that’s shaped me as a person more now, knowing that I can just be who I am on the field and off the field.”
Brito further detailed her relationship with Jesus Christ, illustrating that he is always present in our lives, no matter how far or distant our faith may feel during the various seasons of life. “I would say he’s my best friend,” she said. I’ve been really working on trying to remember constantly that he’s present in every single situation, like right by my side, if that makes any sense, but it’s this idea of him being present in every single moment.”
The All-American athlete emphasized God’s omnipresent nature, and that he is always with us; sometimes, we just need to listen. “Because I think sometimes I forget. I mean, we all kind of get caught up in those spaces where we think God’s silent, but really it’s like, well, are my eyes, my ears open to understanding that the Lord is always near. And I’ve obviously gone through some things where you do get caught up in those moments where you’re like, where are you God? And he’s like, I’m sitting right here and next to you. I’m taking care of all of it. I’m working for your good. So, to me, that’s who Jesus is to me right now,” she continued.
Brito added that having open conversations about Jesus Christ and spreading his message has deepened her faith. “I just feel like getting the opportunity to be different and bring attention to the Kingdom and have conversations about Christ, I think that’s definitely made me feel more confident in my faith,” she said.
Earlier this year, in March, Brito helped baptize one of her teammates, sharing a post to Instagram praising the Lord. “God, Your timing is good. You have a beautiful and perfect way of writing Your story,” Brito wrote in the post. “Thank you for a gentle reminder today, that we rejoice and we PRAISE You, not this world.”
“What is seen as loss in this world God, You ground us in Your truth. Truth that You already won. victory is WON,” she added in the caption. “Won when You sent Your Son to die for us on the Cross. Paying the ultimate debt and sacrifice for us. Breaking the barrier of sin between Your children and You, Father. We don’t deserve this borrowed breath God, yet today and everyday we thank You for waking us up and filling us with a purpose for Your Kingdom. Today there’s a party in Heaven!!!!!”
In a separate post, the softball star proclaimed that her faith rests solely in Christ, trumping any other accomplishments or failures that the world may assign.“My identity is in Christ,” she said. “His love is greater than any stats, results, or failures.”
