Siblings Kirk Cameron and Candace Cameron Bure recently expressed their Christian faith and their respective journeys in coming to Jesus Christ. “We didn’t grow up in a Christian home, but Mom was always a believer,” Bure said.
According to Bure, the family began attending church when she was around the age of 12 but eventually stopped attending regularly and did not study scripture. However, the actress noted that she began to explore faith further upon having children.
“It wasn’t until I saw myself as a sinner that I realized what He did for me, and that changed everything,” Bure said. “I believe I’ve been a Christian since I was 12, but I didn’t start walking with God until I was about 22 or 23 years old,” she said.
Kirk Cameron explained that faith wasn’t an important part of his life for the longest time. “I simply never really thought about God,” he said. However, his attitudes toward Christianity began to change after he attended church with a friend.
“As I continued to ask questions and find answers to my questions, I became persuaded that Jesus really is who He said He is, that the Bible really is the word of God, and the most important decision I could ever make would be to humble myself and trust Jesus Christ as the lord of my life,” he said.
Ultimately, Cameron finally placed his faith in Jesus Christ, noting that it was the most important experience of his life. “Of all the things I’ve ever done in my life — of all the people I’ve met, the places I’ve been, all the cool experiences I’ve had — nothing compares to the joy of knowing Jesus Christ as my lord and savior.”
Now, the Christian siblings have made it their goal to share their faith with others with their God-given talents on-screen and in other various forms of media. Bure stated that expressing her faith has become much more important as she gets older.
“I’ve been an outspoken Christian pretty much my whole life. I love sharing my faith with people, and I haven’t always incorporated that in the movies and television shows that I’ve been in over the last 40 years,” Bure said in comments to The Christian Post. “But if anyone knows me on a personal level or looked me up, they would know that I’m a woman of faith. As I’ve gotten older, it’s just something that’s become so much more important to me to be able to share my faith within the movies that I produce and star in, as well.”
Echoing a similar sentiment, Cameron also said, “You have to be true to your higher values.” He continued, “Everybody has to deal with bias. If you draw a line and say, ‘Hey, I’m about truth,’ well, those who aren’t will have a bias against you. If you say you’re about faith in God, you’ll have people stand up and cheer, then you’ll have others who won’t. That’s the way the world works. You have to know what it is that you are willing to take it on the chin for.”
