Famous actor Mark Wahlberg recently spoke about the role of his devout Catholic faith in his successful life. According to Wahlberg, his life is centered around his Faith and God, followed by his intense dedication to his family.
He told Fox News Digital, “My faith, and my family, and just finding good balance. But I have to attribute all my success to my faith.” In recent years, Wahlberg has been known to speak publicly about his Christian faith not shying away from the topic.
The actor also stated that while he doesn’t seek to impose Catholicism on his young children, he hopes to guide them toward the faith by setting a strong example as a father. “Even with my faith, I don’t force it on [my kids]. But they know that dad can’t start the day without being in prayer, can’t start the day without reading my Scripture or going to Mass,” Wahlberg said during an interview with NBC in 2022.
He further added that he hopes to demonstrate to his children why being a Christian is so important, ultimately leading them to make the commitment as well. “And hopefully, instead of forcing that on them, they’ll say, ‘Well, if it works for dad, maybe it’ll work for us,’ and they’ll kind of gravitate toward it on their own.”
The Christian Tribune reported on a 2023 interview Wahlberg gave on “Today,” where he acknowledged the unfortunate reality that Jesus was not popular in the entertainment industry, but he refused to deny his savior. He spoke about his faith, stating, “It’s everything, it’s afforded me so many things… God didn’t come to save the saints, He came to save the sinners… We want to be better versions of ourselves, and through focusing my faith, it’s allowed me to do that.”
The actor explained why he didn’t address his faith very often in the past, explaining that, like with his children, he didn’t want to force it upon anyone. “It’s a balance. I don’t wanna jam it down anybody’s throat, but I do not deny my faith. That’s an even bigger sin. You know, it’s not popular in my industry, but, you know, I cannot deny my faith,” he added.
However, he further explained that while it’s important to be respectful, we are also called to simultaneously share the good news of Jesus Christ. “It’s important for me to share that with people. I have friends from all walks of life and all different types of faiths and religions, so you know, it’s important to respect and honor them as well.”
In recent times, Wahlberg has seemingly become more outspoken about his Catholic faith, even promoting the Catholic prayer app Hallow with actor Jonathan Roumie who plays Jesus in the hit series “The Chosen.” The app has been dowloaded millions of times.
“We all know those things that make us feel guilty and don’t make us feel as good as we should. [The goal is] being able to detach from those things and focus on good habits as opposed to bad habits. … I’m just challenging people to be better versions of themselves,” Wahlberg said during lent last year.
