Following the failed assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump at his Butler, Pennsylvania rally on Saturday evening, numerous public figures have come out making public statements on the act of political violence aimed at a presidential candidate. Dr. Ben Carson released an official statement on the matter expressing that God was watching over Trump during the harrowing incident.
“I firmly believe with all my heart that God was watching over President Trump. As I said back in 2016 and again recently, I think President Trump is called for this moment in history. God is not done with our country, and President Trump cares about our nation deeply. Let us pray for our nation, for President Trump to continue to have wisdom, and for our country to unify,” he stated.
“The American people are seeing what is taking place, and We the People need to be UNITED. We need to turn to God, and we need to realize together, we are unstoppable. And as if we needed more proof of divine intervention, I would urge everyone to read. 2 Chronicles 7:14 today, July 14th,” Carson continued, signing off, “God Bless.”
Former President Trump also voiced that he believes it was God alone that prevented him from dying in the horrific attack, where a bullet grazed his ear, likely only millimeters away from being a fatal headshot. “Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers yesterday, as it was God alone who prevented the unthinkable from happening,” Trump wrote.
He added, “We will FEAR NOT, but instead remain resilient in our Faith and Defiant in the face of Wickedness. Our love goes out to the other victims and their families. We pray for the recovery of those who were wounded, and hold in our hearts the memory of the citizen who was so horribly killed. In this moment, it is more important than ever that we stand United, and show our True Character as Americans, remaining Strong and Determined, and not allowing Evil to Win. I truly love our Country, and love you all, and look forward to speaking to our Great Nation this week from Wisconsin. DJT.”
Trump initially addressed the attempt on his life, thanking the Secret Service and law enforcement for their efforts. He also extended his condolences to the family of Corey Comperatore, who died amid the barrage of gunfire directed at Trump.
Trump said, “I want to thank The United States Secret Service, and all of Law Enforcement, for their rapid response on the shooting that just took place in Butler, Pennsylvania. Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the Rally who was killed, and also to the family of another person that was badly injured. It is incredible that such an act can take place in our Country.
He continued, “Nothing is known at this time about the shooter, who is now dead. I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear. I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin. Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening. GOD BLESS AMERICA!”
