Following the surprise announcement that President Joe Biden would be dropping out of the 2024 race, many pro-life leaders have weighed in on the implications of a Kamala Harris presidency, given that Biden and many Democrats have pledged their support for her. Harris has a substantial record of advocating for various pro-abortion causes.
The founder and president of the pro-life activist organization Live Action, Lila Rose, took to X, where she asserted that a Harris administration would be “disastrous for human rights.” As California AG, Kamala Harris persecuted pregnancy resource centers and pro-life journalists David Daleiden and Sandra Merrit. As VP, she’s continued her crusade against pro-life Americans & the preborn. A Harris presidency would be disastrous for human rights,” she wrote.
Students for Life of America and Students for Life Action President Kristan Hawkins labeled Biden the most “pro-abortion” president in the U.S. history. She wrote on X, “The most pro-abortion President in U.S. history, a self-proclaimed Catholic who betrayed his faith & Church on the LIFE issue, leaves the national stage in disgrace.”
Hawkins then turned her attention to Harris, writing, “But anyone who thinks that his predecessor will be an improvement hasn’t been paying attention. Biden has endorsed Kamala Harris. With Kamala likely as the next Democratic Presidential Candidate, we can expect nothing less than abortion extremism through all nine months, and after birth, for any reason. The Pro-Life Generation has been following her around on her abortion-loving campus tour all year and we know there is nothing she is more committed to than ending the lives of innocent babies & putting mothers and minors lives at risk with access deadly Chemical Abortion Pills and surgical abortions.”
Marjorie Dannenfelser, the president of Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, released a lengthy statement suggesting that Harris would attempt to force the legality of late term abortions on all fifty states. “Kamala Harris is determined to impose on all 50 states all-trimester abortion without any limits, even painful late-term abortions in the 7th, 8th, and 9th month of pregnancy. Harris is so committed to abortion that she can’t see anything else – including the developmental stages of children before birth or the real needs of women. Questioned several times on national television, Harris refused to name a single limit on abortion she supports. She’s even praised efforts to shut down pregnancy care centers which provide real support for women and families in need while becoming the first sitting vice president to campaign at an abortion business. While Joe Biden has trouble saying the word abortion, Kamala Harris shouts it,” she said.
In contrast, Dannenfelser praised former President Donald Trump and JD Vance for their stance on abortion. “In contrast, President Trump, JD Vance, and the GOP reject the Democrat attempt to impose abortion on-demand across all 50 states and support the right of states to place limits on abortion. They support providing real options to mothers in need,” the message added.
Biden shocked the country when he posted on X Sunday afternoon, “My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term. My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this.”
