Democratic Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has recently faced backlash for a video shared on social media showing her suggestively feeding a Dorito to a feminist podcast. Some have interpreted the video to be a mockery of the Eucharist, sparking backlash among Christians on social media.

The Christian activist group, CatholicVote, shared the video to X, writing, “How else can this be interpreted other than mockery of Catholics and the sacrament of Holy Communion, not to mention the distasteful pornographic innuendo? Gretchen Whitmer is only the latest example of the gross anti-Catholic bigotry festering inside the Democratic Party.”

User on X subsequently reacted to the controversial video, blasting the governor for the seeming mockery of Holy Communion with Christ.  “They know precisely the evocative nature of this video and its semblance to Holy Communion This is disrespectful at best,” one person wrote in the comments section.

Another person wrote, “No Catholic should ever vote Democrat anyway, but unfortunately many do. This ludicrous, perverted, blasphemous little performance should be enough to convince everyone of just how much Democrat elites hate Catholics.”

“God will not be mocked! The presence of God in this world – lies in the Holy Eucharist. And while evil may try to mock that, it will always remain true and good, and its power will always be greater than that of evil,” another person wrote.

The Christian Tribune recently reported on commentary from Catholic leaders explaining how the Democratic Party is becoming incongruent with Christian values. “They’re anti-Christian, and it’s driving people out…And the guys I’m talking to, it’s not even so much abortion. It’s just they feel like they don’t speak their language anymore. This whole idea of letting men compete against women in sports abuses the bathrooms, they think they’ve just gone off the deep end,” Catholic League President Bill Donohue said.

“Kamala Harris hates Catholics and everything we hold sacred. We can’t pretend otherwise. Our institutions, families, culture and belief in the sanctity of all human life are the antithesis of her vision for America. Donald Trump and JD Vance — and now RFK — are the antidote to the ruling class that has destroyed our country,” CatholicVote President Brian Burch said in a Trump campaign press release.

Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump has campaigned hard for the Christian vote, vowing to represent their interests if reelected. At a faith-based conference earlier this year, Trump said, “I hope we’ll be defending them side by side for your next four years. These are going to be your years, because you’re going to make a comeback like just about no other group. I know what’s happening. I know where you’re coming from and where you’re going, and I’ll be with you side by side. So again, thank you once again for everything you do. And you have to get out and vote. Our religious leaders have to get their incredible people that love them so much and respect them so much. Have to get them out to vote.”
