A resurfaced letter from King Charles III recently revealed that he believes nearly all sects of Christianity have been corrupted by “loathsome political correctness.” Notably, the king’s comments suggest that the Church on England has compromised its Christian traditions to conform to modern cultural standards.
In the letter dated to 1998, Charles explained that he was drawn to the Greek Orthodox Church because of its “timeless traditions,” making it the only church that has not been “corrupted.” He wrote, “Personally, the older I get, the more I am drawn to the great, timeless traditions of the Orthodox Church. They are the only ones that have not been corrupted by loathsome political correctness.”
King Charles became the Supreme Governor of the Church of England. However, he has always maintained strong ties to the Greek Orthodox Church, influenced by his father Prince Philip, who as baptized in the church. However, Philip converted to Anglicanism before marrying Princess Elizabeth, who would go onto become Queen.
The Christian Tribune has reported on other criticism of Christianity in the UK from prominent Catholic priest, Calvin Robinson, who recently issued a dire warning for American Christians, warning them to not allow leftist to erode the basic principles of the faith.
“Please don’t do what we did,” he stated. “Please don’t just sit back and let the liberals deteriorate the rest of everything that you know and love.” He added, “Be careful. American culture is a fantastic culture. Hold on to it, promote it, encourage it. If you want to become multicultural and let other cultures in, that’s something you have to consider. But do not give it up to the detriment of your own.”
Directly calling out the Church of England, Robinson said, “The Church of England has become very liberal in terms of divorce, sex outside marriage, same-sex relationships, transgenderism. And every time the Church tries to be more inclusive, it actually becomes more exclusive to Christianity and to Christian values, and more inclusive to worldly values and just further plummets that downward trajectory.”
Highlighting the apparent swaying of Christian morals, he said, “We’re starting to see the bad fruits of that. And so, without our Christian moral compass, without our Christian values, without our Christian ethics, without any of that, we are grasping at straws. And this is why we’re seeing some woke ideologies temporarily take the place of what used to be Christian.”
While noting that these trends in the U.S. tend to lag behind Europe, Robinson warned that they are on the horizon and Western Christians must remain vigilant. “These kinds of trends are happening in the States, too, I think. Be careful. American culture is a fantastic culture. Hold on to it, promote it, encourage it. If you want to become multicultural and let other cultures in, that’s something you have to consider. But do not give it up to the detriment of your own,” he said.
However, Robinson has encouraged Christians not to despair and place their faith in God’s divine plan for history. “I don’t despair at all. Despair is a sin. There’s no sense in despairing. As I say, empires rise and fall. So as this empire — the British Empire, or Western civilization — as it falls, it’s our duty to think big picture and remember that God has a plan, and He only permits things for a reason,” he said.
