Former president Donald Trump recently promised to bring faith leaders “directly into the Oval Office” if he wins the presidential election and retakes the White House. Trump has campaigned hard for the faith vote, particularly among evangelical Christians, pledging to protect religious liberties.
Trump made the remarks about including religious leaders in his leadership decisions while speaking at the National Faith Summit in Powder Springs, Georgia. Among his initiatives, Trump promised to reinstate the Faith Office, which he created during his first term, emphasizing the role of faith in the fabric of the nation.
“First of all, we’re going to set that up, and we’ll be talking to you and all of the people that we just met, and anybody else that you think is appropriate as well,” the former president said. “It’s important, and it’ll be directly into the Oval Office.”
The Christian Tribune reported on other pro-faith comments from Trump at the National Faith Summit, where he praised Christians as the “most important people.” The Republican presidential candidate warned the crowd that there are forces that seek to “hurt you; they’re trying to stymie you,” maintaining that religious freedom is under “serious threat.”
Trump continued, “We can’t let that happen because I really believe it’s, it’s sort of the fabric of our country. It’s a thing that holds our country together and we can’t lose it and we’re not gonna lose it. We’re not gonna lose it.” He emphasized, “I think this is a country that needs religion. It’s like the glue that holds it together and we don’t have that. That’s why you are the most important people and I’m not sure you even realize it.”
Similarly, Republican Vice Presidential candidate JD Vance has voiced his support toward the Christian faith, which he is a part of. “I want to talk particularly to people faith, because I know we got a lot of Catholics here, and, you know, I don’t talk a whole lot about my faith, because, you know, sometimes you just talk about other things. You talk about public policy. But I’m certainly a very devout Christian, and I was actually baptized for the first time in 2019 I returned to my faith as a as a young man, got baptized,” Vance said at a rally.
Furthermore, Trump recently tapped Dr. Ben Carson, an outspoken Christian, to serve in his campaign as the “Faith chairman.” Carson wrote on social media, “I am honored to serve as the national faith chairman for the campaign and my friend, @realDonaldTrump. It’s imperative that the faith community realizes what is at stake in this election. President Trump was a staunch supporter of the faith community and he will be again as our 47th President.”
“Kamala Harris and the radical left have waged war on America’s faith community since the day they took office. Her selection of Governor Tim Walz as her Vice-Presidential nominee solidifies their commitment to intensifying those efforts. Ben Carson, a man of unwavering faith, is the perfect person to work with leaders of the faith community on behalf of the campaign to promote the protection of religious freedom and prosperity in our country. Nobody was a bigger champion for the faith community than me, and I look forward to working with Ben Carson to fight back against Kamala Harris’ war on faith and making America great again in November,” Trump said in the press release.
