Prominent pastor David Jeremiah recently warned about a brewing “moral crisis” that is taking place in America, emphasizing that the 2024 presidential election is a pivotal point for the nation. Jeremiah explained to Christian voters that Christians “carry a dual responsibility to the state and to God.”
Jeremiah stressed that the principles American was originally founded on have come under threat. “The soul of America is at stake because the values and principles that secured this country’s greatness are being threatened,” he said. “America faces a critical situation today. Our secular society has mounted the most aggressive attack on moral values in America’s history.”
Jeremiah, who leads the Shadow Mountain Community Church in California shared a “Prayer for America” last week ahead of the election. “In this election, we face many such issues, critical moral decisions that will shape the days ahead. As Christians, we carry a dual responsibility to the state and to God, and we cannot afford to neglect either one,” he said.
“If you and I stand up, but don’t kneel, we have ignored the greatest resource God has given us to win the battle before us,” he added. “We as Christians stand the tallest when we are on our knees in prayer.” Continuing, Jeremiah emphasized that voting and civic duties are a responsibility that all Christians must uphold. “Voting our faith is a responsibility for all of us,” he said, while noting followers of Christ are called to “be a light.”
Jeremiah further stated, “The best way to influence the culture around us is to demonstrate the love of Jesus and His transforming power in everything we do and say. We are called to take the light to the darkness. So let us not hide our light under a bushel or restrain the joy of our salvation. May we reflect the words of our savior in our interactions with those around us being a living testimony of our faith.”
The Christian Tribune recently reported on similar remarks from Re. Franklin Graham, who prayed for God’s protection over the United States from the “evil” that lies ahead as the election was fast-approaching. Graham prayed at former President Donald Trump’s campaign event in Greensboro, North Carolina, he illustrated how the nation is facing turmoil.
Graham wrote on social media about the event, “Tonight I had the privilege of praying at an event in Greensboro, NC, for President Donald J. Trump. I went in a private capacity, not representing any organization.” He added, “It is always a privilege to point people to the only true hope we have — the Lord Jesus Christ. He is what America needs most. Thousands of people prayed together this evening as we asked for God’s help.”
“I ask you to pray right now as well. Our country is in trouble, and there’s so much at stake. The election is just a couple of days away and may be the most important election in the history of the U.S. Pray that God will protect us from the evil that is before us,” he said.
