Following his landslide victory in the 2024 presidential election, President-elect Donald Trump maintained that his life was spared from the failed assassination attempt against him in Butler, Pennsylvania, for the noble reason of getting America back on track.
Since the July rally in which a bullet grazed Trump’s ear, millimeters away from landing a fatal headshot, Trump has increasingly discussed the topic of faith, expressing his own belief in God and his desire to protect religious liberties upon returning to the White House.
In his victory speech early Wednesday morning, Trump said, “Many people have told me that God spared my life for a reason.” He then said, “And that reason was to save our country and to restore America to greatness, and now we are going to fulfill that mission together, we’re going to fulfill that mission.”
The future 47th president further noted that the task ahead is challenging, but he will persevere. “The task before us will not be easy, but I will bring every ounce of energy, spirit and fight that I have in my soul to the job that you’ve entrusted to me. This is a great job that there’s no job like this. This is the most important job in the world,” Trump said.
The Christian Tribune recently reported on Trump’s pre-election comments that he would bring faith leaders directly into the Oval Office if elected. “First of all, we’re going to set that up, and we’ll be talking to you and all of the people that we just met, and anybody else that you think is appropriate as well,” the former president said. “It’s important, and it’ll be directly into the Oval Office.”
Trump continued, “We can’t let that happen because I really believe it’s, it’s sort of the fabric of our country. It’s a thing that holds our country together and we can’t lose it and we’re not gonna lose it. We’re not gonna lose it.” He emphasized, “I think this is a country that needs religion. It’s like the glue that holds it together and we don’t have that. That’s why you are the most important people and I’m not sure you even realize it.”
Furthermore, the Trump campaign previously tapped Dr. Ben Carson to serve as the faith chairman. Carson, who is an outspoken Christian, was elated to take the opportunity. “Kamala Harris and the radical left have waged war on America’s faith community since the day they took office. Her selection of Governor Tim Walz as her Vice-Presidential nominee solidifies their commitment to intensifying those efforts,” the Trump campaign said in a press release.
“Ben Carson, a man of unwavering faith, is the perfect person to work with leaders of the faith community on behalf of the campaign to promote the protection of religious freedom and prosperity in our country. Nobody was a bigger champion for the faith community than me, and I look forward to working with Ben Carson to fight back against Kamala Harris’ war on faith and making America great again in November,” the campaign continued.
