According to recent reports, Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, who have been tapped by President-elect Donald Trump to lead the Department of Government Efficiency (D.O.G.E.), have expressed the intention to divert federal funding away from Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest provider of abortions. Following the election, Musk and Ramaswamy have increasingly voiced creative ideas to reign in the bloated bureaucracy of the federal government.
The duo stated in a co-written op-ed, “This team will work in the new administration closely with the White House Office of Management and Budget. The two of us will advise DOGE at every step to pursue three major kinds of reform: regulatory recissions, administrative reductions and cost savings.”
When highlighting progressive entities that receive hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars per year, the D.O.G.E. leaders directly called out Planned Parenthood. “DOGE will help end federal overspending by taking aim at the $500 billion plus in annual federal expenditures that are unauthorized by Congress or being used in ways that Congress never intended, from $535 million a year to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and $1.5 billion for grants to international organizations to nearly $300 million to progressive groups like Planned Parenthood,” they added.
Following the op-ed, the anti-Planned Parenthood agenda touted by Musk and Ramaswamy has excited many conservatives and pro-life activists who believe abortion is an evil, sinful practice. As the left incessantly pushed a radical abortion agenda, it became a decisive issue on the campaign trail. In the wake of Trump’s landslide victory, pro-lifers celebrated the election as a “huge” victory.
Shawn Carney, the founder of the national pro-life organization, “40 Days For Life,” said after the election, “Well, I think the victory is huge for Catholic voters. I mean, Trump, handedly, won the Catholic vote.” He continued, “Catholics. always got the impression from really frank Biden-Harris administration that they hate Catholics and they hate religion in general.”
“I mean, we see what they tolerated, in some cases, encouraged what happened to the Jews. We saw the DOJ target Catholics and target pro lifers, and you just got that sense that they they didn’t like or respect Catholics,” he added. “It came down to abortion. When you look at the exit polling, the Catholic Church is adamantly against abortion. Kamala ran on abortion. She celebrated abortion. Her campaign was depressing at best. And abortion is serious. Latinos are against abortion. Catholics are against abortion. And even the liberal Catholics who are going to, you know, vote Democrat who may tolerate abortion, they don’t know. They don’t want it shoved in their their throats, and they certainly don’t want abortion 40 weeks.”
Carney highlighted the radical approach to abortion that is pushed by some on the left. “They wanted to deny health care to a baby girl who commits some kind of crime surviving the abortion attempt on her life. They supported infanticide. They supported abortion in all 40 weeks. They demanded that you weren’t a real woman unless you judged your dignity based on your access to abortion. Very condescending,” he said.
