The United States Department of Education has recently faced accusations of forcing a progressive “woke agenda” on Christian institutions of higher education. According to reports, the agency under Biden-Harris has unfairly targeted Christian-oriented colleges and universities to push the leftist belief system, which often contradicts the core tenets of Christianity.
The conservative think tank, The American Principles Project, released an eye-opening report this month, titled, “The Department of Education’s Office of Enforcement: The Obscure Agency Leading a Crusade Against Christian Colleges and How New Data Proves the Bias.” In the findings, it was discovered that Christian institutions have less than 10 percent of college students in the nation, but make up around 70 percent of penalties from the enforcement office.
Furthermore, the data indicates that fines imposed on universities over the last decade for violating federal laws related to crimes on campus averaged roughly $230,000. However, the average fine against Christian institutions was approximately $815,000. The report delves into specific examples of schools being exorbitantly fined, in cases with Liberty University and Grand Canyon University, both Christian schools.
The report sounded off on the Biden administration, while noting the American people have rejected its agenda. “This was an enormous win for the American people. It’s clear that Trump’s vision for freedom, populism, and patriotism inspired tens of millions of voters from all backgrounds, including those from working class communities,” the report read.
The think tank continued in its executive summary outlining the persecution Christians have faced from the left. “A critical part of his victory can be attributed to people of faith, who, for the last four years, have been mocked, ridiculed, targeted, and persecuted by the Left. Under the Biden-Harris Administration, the power of the federal government was unleashed on America’s large Christian population and even sought to destroy higher education institutions that offer alternatives to traditional universities,” the APP said.
“While Republicans should certainly look to the future and focus on delivering on our political mandate, we should also identify the harmful anti Christian discriminatory actions taken by the Biden Administration – and ensure that no future Administration can ever pursue such an agenda again,” the report maintained. “While it is safe to say that President Trump, who has a great deal of respect for Christians, will not continue the Biden Administration’s lawfare and targeted persecution of Christian institutions, Congress must enact reforms to the Department of Education to prevent it from arbitrarily targeting certain schools because they refuse to adopt left-wing woke orthodoxy and indoctrinate their students.”
However, the Department of Education denied such accusations of unfairly punishing Christian schools. “A school’s religious affiliation or nonprofit status has absolutely no bearing on our oversight and enforcement actions,” a spokesperson said in a statement to the Christian Post. “Our top priority is protecting safety and academic opportunity for all students at institutions of higher education. The data in the APP report itself pushes a false narrative by distorting information released publicly by the Department.”
