The ironically named Rev. Dr. Duke Lackey aimed at The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) in a recent sermon at North Raleigh United Methodist Church. The UMC is a highly progressive denomination, and many of its preachers are woke ideologues. In his rant, Lackey complained about budget cuts at USAID and addressed a recent letter penned by UMC bishops.
“What the bishops address in the Letter This week, [is] the 90-day ban given …for recipients of United States Aid,” he began. “As United Methodists, we partner with USAID through the United Methodist Committee On Relief. We are able to send food and supplies to war-torn regions in the world because we work in conjunction with our government.”
“We are to give tents or some type of home to displaced persons because we were in conjunction with the United States Aid,” he added. “This is beyond my pay grade. I may not know what I’m talking about. I believe that if we’re concerned about this money not going where it’s supposed to go to, we could do a financial audit and feed the hungry at the same time,” he insightfully added.
“That’s doable,” Lacky preached. “We have an audit every year. They come in, they look at our books, they make sure that we’re in alignment with all the appropriate laws and rules. Ministry doesn’t stop. Sometimes, they say, yeah, you might need to tweak this right here. Or you have you thought about this over here? You can do both at the same time.”
“I believe that one role of the government is to allow the church to do the work of the church. We need it. We can’t go into a war-torn region safely. We need what government can offer to do the work of the church,” the methodist pastor concluded. Online commentators were quick to pounce on the progressive minister, with many noticing his hypocrisy.
“Notably absent is him asking the congregation to give more to make up for the deficits or to go and give aid at their own risk if this is something that important,” one account accurately added. Another noticed, “Many people have asked “how do these mainline, apostate denominations, like the UMC, continue to operate with the massive decline in their membership?” I think we figured it out. The good news is that their money just dried up.”
“The entire leftist Christian industrial complex to promote and move migrants globally is getting gutted. All of these people are apostate and enemies of God,” one user dramatically reacted. “A lot of church’s are coming out as state sponsored. Just admitting they are around because the government gives them money. Amazing lack of self awareness,” another user said.

“Funny, I thought that was what missionary groups did for all of history before the government got involved. Look, I get those areas are dangerous and I’m not being flippant about the risk churches face by going in and doing the work solo,” one account said in a lengthy response. “But, the reality is the church did this for generations without the “help” of the government. Maybe they should do what the church is supposed to do. Just a thought.”
