In a recent address at the National Catholic Prayer Breakfast, Vice President JD Vance revealed that his son had been baptised in the Catholic Church. Vance recently converted to the Catholic Church, and his wife is a Hindu. In the speech, Vance expressed his pride in his son and offered insight into the realities of a dual-faith household. While this is not the first time Vance has spoken about his faith, it is one of the more personal speeches he’s made.
“When I think about the deep things, the things that really matter, there was something really amazing that happened to me in November 2024. All my friends and family were there, ” Vance began. “We were gathered together in a great moment of celebration. And of course, I’m talking about when my seven-year-old chose to be baptized in the Christian faith.”
“Ewan is in school right now, so we won’t see this,” the Vice President added. ” But as amazing as it was to win the election, of course, in November of 2024 and as amazing as it was to know President Trump would become president again, and would get to accomplish so many good things for the American people, the thing that I was most excited about in November of 2024 is that the week after we won the election, my son chose to be baptized in the Christian faith.”
“Now here’s the basic idea and and for those of you, of course, you all mostly are cradle Catholics, I assume, and typically, we do water baptism of infants in the Christian in the Catholic Church, very, very early on,” he explained. “But as many of you know, I am part of an interfaith marriage. My wife, she comes to church with us almost every single Sunday. She is not Catholic herself.”
“And so the bargain that we have struck is that we will raise our kids Catholic, but we will let them choose the moment that they want to ultimately become baptized. And that’s terrible sacrilege. Blame the Dominicans, because they’re the ones who came up with this,” he humorously added. “Uh, but a seven-year-old elected to become baptized, and it was the proudest moment, maybe, that I’ve ever had as a father.”
“He took it very seriously, and he wanted to know what are the right things to say now, what do I need to do? What does this mean? Why is this important? And it was an amazing thing for me to see my seven-year-old working through these things, himself, and when I talk about the deep things, the important things, that’s what I’m talking about.”
In a recent interview at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), Vice President JD Vance explained his faith and the gospel. “It’s not just a set of good moral principles… the Son of God became man, he died, and then he raised himself from the dead. That is the fundamental tenet of the Christian faith,” the catholic Vance, told CPAC host Mercedes Schlapp. “I think one lesson that flows from that is that we shouldn’t fear death… There are much more terrible things than just losing one’s life…you could lose one’s soul.”

The VP said mainstream culture “wants to turn everybody, whether male or female, into androgynous idiots who think the same, talk the same and act the same.” “We actually think God made male and female for a purpose,” he continued. “We want you guys to thrive as young men and as young women, and we’re going to help with our public policy to make it possible to do that.” “It’s not just a set of good moral principles… the Son of God became man, he died, and then he raised himself from the dead. That is the fundamental tenet of the Christian faith,”he concluded.
