According to his family, Phil Robertson, the patriarch of the family behind “Duck Dynasty,” has taken a turn for the worse in his long-running health crisis. In an episode of the “Unashamed with the Robertson Family” podcast, Jase Robertson revealed that his father’s health is “not good,” and the doctors are focused on making Phil comfortable during his final days.

For context, Phil Robertson is an American television personality, businessman, and outdoorsman, best known for his role on the hit reality TV series Duck Dynasty. In addition to his success on television, Robertson is well known for his deep faith and conservative values.

In any case, Jase Robertson offered a sobering insight into his father’s health. He said, “Tell you the truth, it hasn’t been good. I’m just giving the blunt truth. I’ll say, Not good… We’re making them comfortable and we’re doing the best we can. So I think that’s just what you do.”

Adding context, Jase explained how his mother is dealing with her own health issues. He added, “For my mom, it’s been a lot better this past week, because she was really not doing good. She got an infection from a fall, from a cut that had happened earlier…she’s still in the hospital, but (now it’s) more rehab, physically, and trying to get her to eat. We were kinda dealing with the fact that maybe this is it. That’s what it seemed like in the moment. It seemed close there. So it was difficult.”

Before this last update,  Willie Robertson was hopeful for his father’s recovery. He said,  “He is battling many different things at the same time,” but is “sharp as ever” regarding his knowledge of the scripture. Continuing, he said, “He’s got a blood disorder, and then he’s got the mental issues that could be early [onset] Alzheimer’s … and probably some mini-strokes because of his blood.”

Building on that point, he explained his father’s failing health. He added, “And so, it could be some stroke stuff happening, that has happened. So, we’re still checking on all that. But then he also has a back issue, he’s fractured his back, and that’s where the pain’s at. So, he’s kind of battling many different things at the same time.“ “It’s hard with the mental stuff,” Willie explained. “It’s hard to determine exactly what these causes are, especially with early signs, it’s hard to determine brain damage from stroke or is that Alzheimer’s?”

Watch Phil talk about his strong faith here:

Providing additional insight, Willie said Phil Robertson is still a committed Christian. He explained, “He goes right back to that, and so we find those things that seem to comfort him. He still quotes the Bible and still talks about his faith in God, so I think that’s been comforting and something that he hasn’t lost yet.”

Concluding his remarks, Willie Robertson said: “His faith is such an important part of his life. And life is short and temporary, and he’s always known that. And we’ve always had such an eternal perspective, really, on life itself. We’re not sad, we realize this is, you know, these are things that happen on this Earth, and we deal with them.”
