In a woke rant which took the internet by storm, Lex Dunbar, a self-described “Euthanasia Doula” and “black non-binary trans masc,” gave a sermon on far-left gender ideology. Conservatives were incensed by the progressive pastor and fired off dozens of angry comments.
For context, this video highlights a deep theological divide within Christianity over LGBTQ+ acceptance, which has raged hotly for decades. While conservative Christians adhere to a traditional view of gender and believe that the Bible sets strict guidelines for sexuality, liberals seek to bring woke identity politics into the church.
In any case, Lex Dunbar began the offensive screed by rattling off woke boilerplate. The pastor said, “Jesus says, I’m going to the Father and I got you, baby, but you go to the brothers and tell them, I got you. Jesus is at work in the cosmos. We must be at work on the ground. Jesus went to the Father and commands us to go to the people. Jesus is saying, I’m fighting the spiritual battles in your fight is the injustice and the oppression, the religious hypocrisy, the homophobia, the transphobia that exists in your community.”
Building on the point, the speaker whined about so-called oppression. Dunbar ranted, “That’s your fight, Mary, that is the fight that I’m equipping you to do. Even in this Jesus said, Mary, none of us are alone, because when I go to the to the Father, there with me is this great cloud of witnesses, your ancestors, the ones who fought in the struggles, the ones who didn’t just protest for a day, but months and years and decades, the ones who, in the face of all the oppression, the anger and the violence, kept going to the community, kept doing the work, “adding, “And really with this message for me, and thinking about how many of us are standing at this tomb and we are disappointed.”
Still not done, the controversial pastor gloated about the 2020 riots. The pastor declared, “We thought that things were going to change in 2020, we thought that the outlook of things was going to be different. We thought that, you know, we finally got some more rights for our trans siblings, and then 2024 happens, and we’re standing at this tomb, worried, anxious, afraid. I believe, as Jesus has said, as Jesus said to Mary, I believe Jesus is saying to you, I got you this work that y’all have been doing in this place.”
Finally concluding the offensive screed, Dunbar said, “I got you keep doing the work, this work that we’re seeing, and we’re standing up to the justices and the powers that be right now to say, No, keep doing the work. I believe that this message we can say to our trans kids who are here, who are watching, who are in our communities, I got you, baby. They may try to erase you on the books with documents, but I got you. They may try to say that you have no place here, but we will be a community and a people that say, I got you. You need a place to hide. I got you.”
In the comments under the post, conservatives expressed their anger at the woke minister. One such comment read, “This is nothing less than a complete abandonment, even rejection, of the one true God revealed to us in Scripture.” Another added, “I have absolutely NO idea what she said–I assume that’s a woman, but I suspect she’s trying to pass as a fat man. The Methodist Church is about as heretical as can be.”

Continuing to hammer away at the woke pastor, one user noted, “Difficult to hear anything with her huffing and puffing from being out of breath just walking to the lectern. What perversion flowed from her lips thereafter.” Slamming the church who allowed this pastor to speak, another comment read, “Well, it’s not a church and that creature is not a pastor/minister/whatever, but the word salad nonsense certainly makes you wonder who on earth this Lex is.
