Comedian and actor Tim Allen surprised fans when he shared that he has been reading through the entire Bible for the first time, saying he is “amazed” at what he found in the Old Testament and referring to the Bible as a “treasure,” adding that he had never before committed himself to reading the text in full.

For context, in a post on X on June 3, 2025, Allen, best known for his roles in Home Improvement and The Santa Clause, told fans that he had finished reading the Old Testament for the first time and was discovering a deeper meaning within the pages of Scripture. In addition, Allen said that he was now reading the book of Romans.

It all started when, on August 20, 2024, Tim Allen announced on X that he was starting to read the Old Testament, saying that he “never took the time in all my years to read and really read the Bible.” He added, “Currently almost through the Jerusalem Bible Old Testament and almost done with the Prophets. Next up to New Testament. So far amazing and not at all what I was expecting.”

In response to Allen’s initial post, several prominent Christian personalities showed their support, with Mike Winger telling Allen in a comment, “Wait till you get to the book of Hebrews. Like a skeleton key for unlocking the Old Testament.” Joel Berry of The Babylon Bee added, “Can’t wait for you to read the gospels!” Referencing Allen’s role as Buzz Lightyear in the Toy Story series, Canon Press’s Wade Stotts said, “To Corinthians…and beyond!”

In addition, Pastor Greg Laurie celebrated Allen’s Bible-reading journey on X as well, saying, “That’s fantastic, Tim!” and adding, “The Bible is God’s very word to each of us. The message of the Bible is really how we can come into a relationship with God through Jesus Christ. I hope you will read John 3:16…God bless you, Tim!”

Over a year later, on June 4, 2025, Tim announced that he had finished reading the Old Testament, saying, “It is such a gift when I get out of the way and the words and meaning flow. This week, I am now in the book of the Gospel of Paul. A Roman Jew familiar with Plato, Stoicism, and other Greek schools of thought. I am amazed in seven pages!”

After his initial post, some commenters pointed out that “there is no Gospel of Paul,” Which led Allen to subsequently post again to clarify, saying, “Ok specifically reading Apostle Paul’s letter to the Romans.” In addition, Allen told his fans in another post that he had gone to church on Easter with his mother, saying, ” I am so grateful to be able to fly into Detroit to take my 96 year old Mom who did everything for me and my 8 siblings to church.”

In the past, Allen has spoken out about his belief in God and commitment to Jesus, saying in a 2022 interview with The Wrap that he had stood his ground on keeping Christ at the center of the Disney+ series The Santa Clauses, saying, “It originally had a lot of otherworldly characters, and ghosts, and goblins. I said no, this is Christ-mas. It’s Christ-mas. It literally is a religious holiday.” He added, “We don’t have to blow trumpets, but I do want you to acknowledge it. That’s what this is about. If you want to get into Santa Claus, you’re going to have to go back to history, and it’s all about religion.”
