Christian Lawmakers Celebrate “Huge Victory” as Supreme Court Upholds Tennessee Ban on Gender-Transition for Minors

In a major victory for Christian values, the United States Supreme Court has ruled to uphold a Tennessee law that restricts medical interventions for minors who want to transition to a gender other than their biological sex. In response to the ruling, Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti celebrated what he called a “landmark victory.”

For context, on June 18, 2025, the Supreme Court ruled in a 6-3 decision that it would uphold Tennessee Senate Bill (SB) 1, a law that prevents minors from receiving “gender-affirming care” in the state. Predictably, progressives, including the court’s three liberal justices, disputed the decision, but conservatives celebrated and called the ruling a victory for both legislators and voters.

In a video posted on X on June 18, Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti said of the ruling, “Today was a huge victory for Tennessee and the United States Supreme Court. We won in United States v. Skrmetti, defending Tennessee’s law that prohibits irreversible medical interventions for gender transition purposes for kids.” He continued, “This is a big win for evidence-based medicine. This is a big win for democracy, for letting state governments decide what state laws should be.”

Continuing, AG Skrmetti said, “Thank you to everybody who supported this effort. Thank you to the Tennessee General Assembly and to the governor and to all the people who encouraged us and provided support through this litigation,” The attorney general concluded, “We’re gonna keep fighting to protect Tennessee kids, and we appreciate all of the prayers and encouragement along the way.”

In addition, U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi celebrated the decision online as well, writing in a June 18 X post, “I applaud today’s Supreme Court decision that allows states to protect vulnerable children from genital mutilation and other so-called ‘gender-affirming care’ that leaves children permanently disfigured and scarred.”

Furthermore, the attorney general said that the DOJ “will continue to fight to protect America’s children and parental rights.” She added, “I encourage other states to follow Tennessee’s lead and enact similar legislation to protect our kids.” In the comments section, the conservative influencer Desiree praised AG Bondi, saying,  “You stood up for kids when many stay silent.”

On the other hand, Justice Sonia Sotomayor, in a dissenting statement, criticized the court’s conservative majority for refusing “to call a spade a spade,” saying, “Instead, it obfuscates a sex classification that is plain on the face of this statute.” Conversely, Chief Justice John Roberts, a conservative, determined that the Tennessee law does not discriminate against individuals based on “transgender status.”

In the Supreme Court’s official ruling, Justice Roberts said that while those on the other side of the issue “raise sincere concerns” and “the implications for all are profound,” there was no legal justification to overturn Tennessee SB 1. Furthermore, Politico confirmed that the law will continue to prevent medical professionals from prescribing hormone therapy or puberty blockers to anyone under 18.
