First Lady Melania Trump had a heartfelt message of support for those affected by the devastating flash flooding in Texas, saying that she and the president are grieving alongside the families who lost children when the floods reached a Christian summer camp in Kerrville, Texas.
For background, beginning on July 4, 2025, flash flooding struck Central Texas, causing the Guadalupe River to rise by over 30 feet in under an hour. Less than a week later, President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump visited Kerrville, Texas, to support those affected by the floods, and held a roundtable addressing the tragedy and devastation.
During the roundtable, Melania addressed everyone affected by the flooding, saying, “My deepest sympathy to all of the parents who lost beautiful young souls. Deepest sympathy from all of us to the community, to everybody who lost a loved one.” She added, “We are grieving with you. Our nation is grieving with you.”
Continuing, Melania said that she and the president had “just met with the wonderful families” whose children tragically passed away in the flooding, saying, “We prayed with them, we hugged, we held hands.” She added, “They shared their stories. And I met beautiful young ladies. They gave me this special bracelet from the camp in honor of all of the little girls that lost their lives.”
Next, Melania held up a bracelet presented to her by campers at Camp Mystic, a Christian summer camp that was hit extremely hard by the flooding, leading to the untimely deaths of 27 people, including both campers and counselors. Melania said, “So we are here to honor them and also to give the [supporters] help. And I will be back, I promise them, and I just pray for them and give them my strength and love.”
In addition, President Trump spoke during the roundtable as well, expressing the “anguish of our entire nation in response to the flooding and saying, “We just visited with incredible families that — I mean, look, they’ve been devastated.” He added, “They lost their child, or two children. And, just hard to believe. I’ve never seen anything like it, a little narrow river that becomes a monster, and that’s what happened.”
Continuing, the president said, that he and the first lady are “filled with grief and devastation at the loss of life,” adding, “And unfortunately, they’re still looking. They’re still looking. There’s a lot of missing children.” The president went on to say that it would be unreasonable to make the case that what was lost can be recovered, telling the crowd, “So many lives have been lost, you can’t say that. But we’re going to make it. We’re going to make it back. We’re going to make it back. And we’re going to make it good again.”
The president went on to say that no one was to blame for the flooding, telling those at the roundtable, “Well, I think everyone did an incredible job under the circumstances,” adding, “I just have admiration for the job that everybody did. There’s just admiration.”
