A Christian coffee shop in Denver, Colorado, has faced massive backlash from the left for being “right-wing,” despite the fact that the business is tied to a homeless ministry, providing free haircuts, food, and even employment to homeless individuals in the Denver area.
For background, on July 15, 2025, Jamie Sanchez, the owner of Drip Cafe in Denver, told Fox News Digital that his business had become a target for far-left protestors, who claimed that the cafe’s homeless ministry, Recycle God’s Love, was “anti-gay,” with one group called Denver Communists holding up picket signs and passing out defamatory flyers to hur the business.
Additionally, Fox reported that Sanchez’s homeless ministry, which he operates alongside the cafe, was co-founded with his late wife, Carlolyn, who tragically passed away in 2018. Sanchez reportedly started the ministry on a small scale, offering meals to the homeless and hosting Bible studies, going on to provide hundreds of homeless Denver residents with essential resources.
Speaking to Fox News Digital, Sanchez explained that he was surprised by the backlash coming from the left, saying, “It was really strange, actually, because we all of a sudden started getting like messages on Instagram about how we hate gay people and just like random comments like that.”
Continuing, Sanchez told Fox News Digital that he had eventually discovered that there was “an organized group ready to protest the opening of our café before we even open.” The coffee shop owner explained, “We did some digging, and we found out it was strictly because we were Christian.”
Moreover, Sanchez said that as time has passed, his ministry has grown into “an amazing community of believers and people who really have a heart to help people who are in need and to do it selflessly.” He added that in 2022, the ministry started “Project Revive,” an initiative that provides homeless people with a path to get housing, counseling, and jobs. Sanchez explained, “We’ve had a few people go through the project so far, and it’s been very successful.”
However, despite Sanchez’s clear commitment to the most vulnerable members of society, his ministry and coffee shop have become a magnet for leftist backlash. Fox reported that when Drip Cafe opened, the local far-left group Denver Communists showed up outside with picket signs and passed out flyers that said that the shop was run by a “right-wing church.”
In response to the protesting, Sanchez said, “I was in shock,” adding, “Our whole purpose opening the café was to serve the homeless community and help people get off the street, change their lives. And here we got a group who just hates us because we’re doing that, and we’re Christian.” Moreover, Sanchez told Fox that despite the protests — and acts of vandalism — he has “never shown anything but love” to the leftists who have gone after his business and ministry.
