Black Christian Pastor Celebrates Demise Of B.E.T., Says It’s A ‘Good Sign’ For Black America

A prominent black voice within the Christian community lambasted the ‘debauchery’ of Black Entertainment Television (BET) and celebrated its demise in the realm of cultural relevance. John K. Amanchukwu Sr. minced no words when he said it was a ‘good sign’ for black America that the hip-hop culture edifying barely-clothed women, cursing, and violence was losing popularity.

Amanchukwu’s comments were sparked by news that BET was suspending its Hip Hop Awards and Soul Train Awards after nearly four decades. In just one year, the most recent 2025 awards show saw an astounding 50% drop in the critical 18-49 demographic compared to the 2024 show. As much as the woke BET might love to exist, if it doesn’t generate ad revenue than nothing else is possible. The network was originally founded in 1980.

Amanchukwu was quoted by the Christian Post as saying the most recent drop won’t be an anomaly and could indeed be a trend, suggesting ‘many black people have grown weary of the content on the channel,’ the Post wrote. Amanchukwu added: “They’ve done a terrible job in depicting the black community in the right way,” he said of BET. “They’ve made black entertainment debauchery, lasciviousness, scantily-clad women, rump-shaking, violence, crime and a brothel culture.”

Not done, the former collegiate football player-turned-pastor pointed out that Christian values for a better individual and society were at odds with the garbage presented on the woke, financially failing cable network. “It’s not edifying, it’s not unifying, it doesn’t build you up; it solely tears down,” he said.

“And so that is a good sign, in my opinion, for black America — that even blacks have ‘black fatigue’ now, I guess. And they don’t want to see the junk and the pro-transgenderism message and the pro-critical race theory and pro-DEI message, they’re just tapped out,” he said. “It shows that revival may be coming to the black community.”

In a clip in which he listens to two other men discuss the realities of B.E.T. from his podcast, The John Amanchukwu Show, before transitioning to his own fiery opinions, he makes clear how little he respects the network. “B.E.T. suspending these award shows isn’t a cultural tragedy, it’s a long overdue mercy killing,” he begins. “These ceremonies became annual worship services for filth, degrading women. And the women danced and celebrated and worshiped the music, and the men allowed, allowed them to be exploited the women and they shake their rear ends.”

“It glorified violence and celebrating ghetto dysfunction that is the culture that they’re trying to push upon blacks. And to see that these awards shows are going away, that is a good sign for black America. It means that not enough minorities are tuning in because they have become disinterested. That is a good thing.”
