Vice President JD Vance erupted on Democrats and their radical left base for demanding the nation come together in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s assassination on a Utah college campus. Vance made clear that he and the Trump administration were not interested in unifying with people whose actions and rhetoric created the political climate leading to both the killing itself and the celebrations after the horrific event.
For context, the vice president filled in for the late Charlie Kirk on the Monday following his death on his regular podcast. Vance had announced his intentions to guest host over the weekend to much fanfare and applause, as it served as the latest reminder that Vance was close to Kirk and personally affected by the murder but also that his political instincts have never been sharper.
While much of the podcast was filled with friends close to Kirk, Vance also used the platform to denounce calls for unity with radical leftists, which is patently absurd given the fact that these same people created the hostile environment which has emboldened and inspired so many individuals to commit acts of violence, and also exposed them in the aftermath as untold millions openly celebrated the killing.
“There is no unity with people who scream at children over their parents’ politics,” Vance’s diatribe began. “There is no unity with someone who lies about what Charlie Kirk said in order to excuse his murder. There is no unity with someone who harasses an innocent family the day after the father of that family lost a dear friend.
“There is no unity with the people who celebrate Charlie Kirk’s assassination, and there is no unity with the people who fund these articles, who pay the salaries of these terrorist sympathizers who argue that Charlie Kirk, a loving husband and father, deserved a shot to the neck because he spoke words with which they disagree,” he continued.
Vance then went on to explain how nefarious organizations contributed to the violent atmosphere and exposed that they outrageously benefit from Americans tax dollars to poison the country. “Did you know that the George Soros Open Society Foundation and the Ford Foundation, the groups who funded that disgusting article justifying Charlie’s death? Do you know they benefit from generous tax treatment? They are literally subsidized by you and me, the American taxpayer, and how do they reward us by setting fire to the house built by the American family over 250 years.”
Vance concluded this particular commentary by observing one salient, albeit sadly uncommon thread; he simply wants the country to be united in its outrage over Kirk’s assassination and for there to be a universal condemnation of what happened. “I’m desperate for our country to be united in condemnation of the actions and the ideas that killed my friend. I want it so badly that I will tell you a difficult truth,” he said.
And reinforcing the point that unity with leftists is impossible, he finished by saying that unity only occurs when we are tethered to the same view of decency and morality. “We can only have it with people who acknowledge that political violence is unacceptable and when we work to dismantle the institutions that promote violence and terrorism in our own country.”
