San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey gave a fun and spirited post-game interview on the field in which he also credited glory to God for continuing to make things happen for him and his team. The comments came after the standout skills position player scored multiple touchdowns while amassing over 200 yards.
“POWERFUL: #49ers star running back Christian McCaffrey gave all the GLORY to GOD in his post game interview after the win. McCaffrey had multiple touchdowns and 200+ yards tonight. Christian does Bible study before every game and prays on the field,” an account captioned on social media while sharing a copy of the video.
Sporting a robe and chain, to which the reporter asked about, McCaffrey immediately tried pivoting back to a more serious answer. Understandably, he was having fun with himself and his teammates following a great individual performance and team effort. But when prompted to discuss the more material matters, he quickly transitioned to a meaningful answer.
“I’m trying to be serious with this jacket and chair on,” he joking began, acknowledging his get up while preparing to offer a grounded response. “So proud of these guys. Man, God is good! We have so much character on this team. You know, you got guys like..who go down and George been out all year.
We’ve had so many things happen on this team. And you know, it’s just the will. And you know, the character of this team is a really fun team to be a part of, and I’m so proud to be a part of it,” he added. Watch McCaffrey’s fun-but-serious post-game interview below:
And he is far from the only star athlete to slow down the pace of interviews and redirect his ego to one of gratitude and service to the Lord. The Christian Tribune also reported on another Week 7 moment in which New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields reacted, not in a moment of glory but of struggle, with a similar God-centered approach.
“I’m about to just be real right now. I’ve always asked God to give me an opportunity and a platform to spread His Word. And sometimes it doesn’t play out the way you always plan it. I think the position I’m in right now is a great opportunity to spread that message and really kind of get the world to know how I feel about Him and how great He is,” Fields stated.
“I’ve been through a lot in my career, especially my NFL career, you know, college career, through the ups and downs, and, no, I’m probably at a low right now, and I think the old me would, you know, feel some certain type of way, but it’s just now, like my faith is so rooted in Christ to where it’s like, like, I told you guys earlier this week, nothing can break me, you know, that’s just what it is,” he continued.
“And as far as my job goes here, I’m gonna be the same. I’m going to come to work the same, you know, I’m going to lead the same. And again, just try to continue to spread that message of, you know, how good God is, and no matter what I go through in life, I know I’m strong enough to handle it. I know he’s strong enough to help me handle it and stuff like that,” Fields went on.
“So yeah, sorry to you know, kind of get that, but I just felt like this thing that’s happening right now is a great opportunity for me to spread His word and spread His love,” the honest and reflective quarterback finished.
