Representative Tim Burchett (R-TN) exemplified the meaning of Veteran’s Day with a post full of gratitude for and respect toward those that served courageously and often without any special accolades. Speaking from his own parents’ graves, where he honored his father’s service in both World War II and the Korean War, Burchett said it was his Christian duty to remember the sacrifices made by men and women in uniform.

“As a Christian, I owe the men and women who wore our country’s uniform everything I have in my life but my salvation. Thank you for your service, Veterans,” the representative from Tennessee’s 2nd district captioned along with a video of him speaking on November 11th.

In the video, Burchett shares the service of his father, who witnessed time in some of the worst fighting against the Imperial Japanese in the Pacific theater and later against the communist Chinese in Korea. His mother flew airplanes in the civilian air corps. He stressed that every individual in the United States military built this country, and lamented the fact that all of their sacrifices are being eroded away by the political left.

“Hey everybody. Tim Burchett, it’s Veterans Day, and here in some hallowed ground, my mom and dad are buried here,” the Congressman began in his short address. “Of course, dad served in the Corps. Mom technically wasn’t a veteran, but she flew an airplane in the civilian air corps.”

“Dad was in some really brutal combat on Peleliu and Okinawa, and then after the war, went to China and fought the communist over there. And it’s this day is about about them, really. It’s about folks that served our great country and built it, and they built it,” he continued.

Burchett then transitioned his remarks from gratitude for his parents and countless others who found themselves in impossible and horrific situations to address the current plight facing America as a nation. He harkened back to former president Ronald Reagan’s timeless observation that freedom is just one generation from being lost, sadly reflecting on his own parent’s service to save the country that he was now watching disappear.

“And unfortunately, right now, it just seems we’re getting ready. They say Reagan said we’re only one generation away from losing it. I’m paraphrasing that, but folks, we’re, we could be weeks or months away from losing it the way Washington DC is,” he stated.

“Please remember these folks, don’t let their contract that they signed that was literally written in blood. Don’t let it be in vain,” Burchett stressed. “Let’s save our country. Daddy prayed one time after an election that was not going well. Remember, he said the blessing, and he said, Lord, please don’t let us lose our country. And that is my prayer, and I hope it’s yours. Thank you all for sending me here.”

One veteran replied to the post echoing the sentiments shared by the Tennessee representative. In it, he seconded the idea that the country is at a frightful crossroads and even went so far to say he doubt he’d sign up for service again if he knew how little his sacrifice ultimately meant for freedom and America.

“Nice message Mr. Tim. I am truly fearful for our nation. If I had known where our country would be in late 2025, I strongly doubt I would have volunteered to serve. I trust it’s part of God’s plan for us. I’ll keep my eyes open for opportunities to turn things around. I know you’ll do the same. In God, we trust!” he wrote.
