Watch: Dearborn’s Muslim Mayor Declares Immigrants Shouldn’t Bother With Assimilation, Outrage Ensues

The Muslim mayor of Dearborn, Michigan set the internet on fire after proclaiming he knew more about the nature of America and how it should function than the citizens that have been here for generations. Abdullah Hammoud, who oversees the country’s first majority-Muslim city, essentially declared the point of America and its melting pot is that immigrants should not have to assimilate to their new, supposed home nation.

The account End Wokeness stated as much in a succinct post to X, where he captioned a short clip of the Muslim mayor speaking on the fantastical notion of the melting pot theory. “Dearborn Mayor Hammoud: The entire point of America is not assimilating to culture and the language,” the account wrote.

In his own words, Hammoud responded to the idea of assimilation and the duty immigrants to the United States should have. Rather than embrace gratitude and assimilation, however, he said America must essentially assimilate to the outsider. “Because what you often hear that it’s accompanied with that as well. You must assimilate. I shouldn’t put out a magazine that’s in two languages. Why can’t you speak English? Why are my videos subtitled in Arabic? Why is my caption both in English and Arabic?” he began.

Continuing, Hammoud said, “People get frustrated by this, but to me, it’s like I actually disavow the use of the term the melting pot. I actually don’t like it. Why? Because, in a melting pot, when you’re talking about like a soup, everything looks the same right where the salad bowl, the lettuce is, lettuce, the tomatoes, tomato, the cucumbers, cucumber and they all compliment each other.”

Instantly, Americans who saw the video reacted with outrage. “A muslim trying to tell americans, how america functions. We need to end this before it gets out of hand. The entire nation of Great Britain should be a cautionary tale,” one user commented.

Another shared a famous quote attributed to Theodore Roosevelt, who had this to say about the hyphenated American over 100 years ago. “America for the Americans… There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn’t an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag… We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language… and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.”

Hammoud was born to an immigrant family from Lebanon. Just 35 years old, for most of his adult life he has involved himself in Michigan politics in order to advance the needs of his specific community and not any larger community at large. He went viral in October this past year for publicly berating an older gentleman who didn’t want to see a street renamed to honor another Muslim associated with Beirut’s infamous 1983 embassy bombing.

In that meeting, the Muslim mayor Hammoud simply said the man was “not welcome” in the city any longer on the grounds he was an “Islamophobe.”

“You are an Islamophobe, and although you live here, I want you to know, as mayor, you are not welcome here. And the day you move out of the city will be the day that I launch a parade celebrating the fact that you moved out of the city because you are not somebody who believes in coexistence,” Hammoud lectured.
