President Donald Trump declared success after military intervention began in Nigeria in order to put a stop to the “slaughter” of Christians in the country at the hands of “Radical Islamic Terrorists.” A Christmas-Day post to social media indicated members of the Islamic State had been targeted after refusing to cease violent attacks on Christians in the northwest region of the beleaguered nation.
“Tonight, at my direction as Commander in Chief, the United States launched a powerful and deadly against ISIS terrorist scum in Northwest Nigeria, who have been targeting and viciously killing, primarily, innocent Christians, at levels not seen for many years, and even Centuries!” the president posted to Truth Social and shared on a White House-affiliated X account.
He then indicated the strikes did not have to take place, but seeing as the targeted harassment and killing of Nigerian Christians did not end, he had no chance but to follow through on his promise to end it for them. Reports vary on the number of casualties, but the administration suggests they achieved what they set out to.
“I have previously warned these Terrorists that if they did not stop the slaughtering of Christians, there would be hell to pay, and tonight, there was. The Department of War executed numerous perfect strikes, as only the United States is capable of doing,” he continued.
Finishing the post, he even wished the dead terrorists a “Merry Christmas” in pure Trump flair. “Under my leadership, our country will not allow Radical Islamic Terrorism to prosper. May God Bless our Military, and MERRY CHRISTMAS to all, including the dead Terrorists, of which there will be many more if their slaughter of Christians continues.”
The military strikes on the region and suspected terrorists comes after months of escalation from Washington, D.C. News of the vicious and deadly treatment of Christians in the country, whether at the hands of Boko Haram or the Islamic State, have gained more traction under new leadership at the White House, and Trump has warned for months that continued aggression by Muslim factions would be costly for them.
In an October 31st post to Truth Social as well, Trump declared a new status for the country of Nigeria, where he said Christians were facing an “existential threat.” He called for leading Republicans in Congress to look into this systematic slaughter and went on to say that America stands by ready to help suffering Christians.
“Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria. Thousands of Christians are being killed. Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter. I am hereby making Nigeria a “COUNTRY OF PARTICULAR CONCERN” — But that is the least of it. When Christians, or any such group, is slaughtered like is happening in Nigeria (3,100 versus 4,476 Worldwide), something must be done!” the president wrote.
“I am asking Congressman Riley Moore, together with Chairman Tom Cole and the House Appropriations Committee, to immediately look into this matter, and report back to me. The United States cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening in Nigeria, and numerous other Countries. We stand ready, willing, and able to save our Great Christian population around the World!” he added.
