A North Dakota artist went viral on Instagram after turning the single word “Jesus” into a magnificent piece of art depicting the Savior on the cross with a crown of thorns. Artist Jayce Hall wrote “Jesus” over 14,000 times and included about 50 Bible verses to complete the unique and awe-inspiring work seen by millions online since his video’s release on December 15th, 2025.

The video, accompanied by moving music, begins with Hall holding his finished artwork hidden from view while text describes it. He then performs a slow reveal to show the world a truly stunning display of creativity and spiritual resonance. The Lord, crafted by His own name, is looking up at Heaven with a look of peacefulness on His face while in the background a portion of the cross is visible and a large crown of thorns sits atop His head.

The short clip then traverses back in time, as it were, to show how the final image was created. Meticulous handwriting can be seen crafting the outline of the major shapes – the face, the neck, the bear, the cross, the crown – as the word “Jesus” is written over and over again in varying thicknesses and black and gray hues.

The video, which has garnered over half a million likes on Instagram and has since been shared across countless other social media platforms, brought instant accolades to the young artist who created this sudden masterpiece. “This is ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE my friend! I’ve never seen anything like it! It’s so unique! You have a truly amazing God given talent! Keep using your gifts to glorify God & to spread the word!” wrote one of the top comments on Instagram where Hall first shared the video to his account.

Writing on Instagram, Hall described what it was like to produce this artwork. “This is by far my most requested drawing that I get every year! The whole piece was such a unique challenge and I’m so proud of how it turned out. My favorite part was working all of the verses into the textures and details of the drawing! This was my first fully digital portrait and it’s made me excited to keep pushing in that direction moving forwards,” he captioned alongside the video in the post.

On his website, Hall shares insights into ten years of developing as an artist and the journey that took him to quitting his job and realizing his passions as a full-time occupation.

“January 15th of 2020 I made my first post. In February I heard of this style where you could draw with nothing but words and I thought that sounded fascinating. I decided to give it a whirl. I finished my first few portraits by the end of the month and by March I had 1,000 followers which exploded to 100,000 in August,” writes in his bio.

“My side hustle that was just for extra cash turned into something much more. I was suddenly making more than what I was making at Starbucks and I was flabbergasted. Fast forward a bit through the years and I have now had the pleasure to work with some of the largest brands in the world. From Netflix, to Call of Duty, to the NFL, to Madison Square Garden, every opportunity had been such a blessing and I am so glad I am still having fun. I took my art full time in November of 2022 and things just keep growing.”
