Pastor Walking 3,000 Miles Across America In One Year To Spread Faith Opens Up About His Journey

A Chicago pastor looking to spread hope and faith shared details about his planned 3,000-mile journey from New York to Los Angeles. Corey Brooks of Project H.O.O.D. and the Leadership and Economic Opportunity Center said he will walk 12.5 miles every day, Monday through Friday, while slowing down on weekends to host revivals and other community events.

Brooks started his journey in September and plans to finish roughly one year from then. As far as the math is concerned, the 12.5-mile daily average means a 3,000-mile walk should take 240 days.

Speaking on Fox News in January, Brooks updated viewers and followers of his mission on the progress made one-third of the way into his travels. He said he had made it to the south and was preparing to enter Alabama after holding up in Atlanta. He explained that his ultimate purpose was the dual-pronged approach of raising awareness in Christ and community while simultaneously raising money for programs meant to help those in need.

“We’ve been walking to raise money for our leadership and Economic Opportunity Center. Also, we’re raising funds to start a boys school and a girls school with a classical Christian school with free tuition. Also, we’re raising the funds to do an endowment so that we don’t have to depend on government…then we’re taking we’re raising funds so that we can plant project hoods across the country in much needed places, whether it’s city, urban areas or rural areas,” he said of the work he’s involved in.

Asked about the reception he’s received from the people with whom he’s met, and Brooks said it’s been overwhelmingly positive. He also noted, unfortunately, that much of what he’s seen reminded him why his mission is so critical. “One of the things that we’re finding out is that America is a very beautiful place with very beautiful people who are real resilient, and that’s one of the reasons why I’m promoting us being more unified and standing for our values and our principles against darkness and against those who would have us to do contrary to what America was founded upon.”

The final question Brooks received had to do with his timeline. Having started in September, he anticipated a completion in a calendar year. “So I have a long way to go from from New York to Los Angeles, so we’ll get there September the 19th. And while I’m walking, I want everyone to know to be resilient. I want everyone to know that, listen, we’re facing a lot of different heartaches and struggles in America, but as Americans, one of the things that gives us an advantage is that we are resilient,” he said of the experience.

“And when we all come together, there’s absolutely nothing that Americans cannot do, and so work hard, roll up your sleeves and let’s do it,” he finished before the segment ended.
