Vice President JD Vance delivered a powerful speech at the annual March For Life event in Washington, D.C., where he spoke eloquently and forcefully on the goodness of marriage and children to counter the far-left narrative that these God-given gifts are an ‘obstacle.’
For context, the March For Life rally has been held annually since 1974, a date directly associated with the then-Supreme Court’s decision to uphold Roe v. Wade as law of the land and give women the so-called right to terminate their pregnancies. Donald Trump became the first-ever sitting president to speak at the gathering of pro-life supporters during his first term, and this was the vice president’s second appearance in that role.
Likewise addressing the crowd during the same speech, Vance again shared news that widely circulated online in the previous week that he and Usha were expecting their fourth child, making the Second Family the first in American history to have a child in office. At once celebrating and joking, he noted that “Usha and I announced this week that we’re expecting our 4th, and it will be our 3rd baby boy, so we’ll take whatever prayers you can give — we certainly need them.”
But it was Vance’s comments uplifting God’s purpose for man and woman to enter into marital union and raise children that highlighted his remarks on stage. “Today, the far left in this country tells our young people that marriage and children are obstacles, that it’s irresponsible, even immoral because of climate change or some other reason to encourage our young people to raise a family,” he said.
“They tell us that life itself is a burden, but we here at this March, we know that it’s a lie. We know that life is a gift. We know that babies are precious because we know them and we love them, and we see the way that they can transform our families. We know that family is not just the source of a great joy, but it’s part of God’s design for men and women, a design that extends outward from the family to our neighborhoods, to our communities and to the United States of America itself,” he continued.
“And we know we here know that treating everyone with dignity isn’t always easy. It’s not always convenient, but it’s the right thing to do. We know that the people telling our young men and women that discarding family and children is a form of liberation,” the vice president added.
“We know that those people are telling a lie, and so to our fellow Americans, we march in part to serve as a witness to our fellow Americans, we say, you’re never going to find great meaning in a cubicle or in front of a computer screen, but you will find great meaning if you dedicate yourself to the creation and sustenance of human life,” he further said.
