NBC ‘Today’ host Savannah Guthrie reached out to fans, followers, and people of all backgrounds horrified by the sudden disappearance of the television anchor’s 84-year-old mother from her Tucson, Arizona home on the 31st of January. Writing on her Instagram page, she thanked the countless people who offered prayers and support.
For context, a missing person’s report was filed the day after her disappearance, February 1st in Pima County. The county’s sheriff, Chris Nanos, indicated that a crime scene existed, though he did not elaborate on the facts making the disappearance sound like a kidnapping. “We do in fact have a crime scene…She did not leave on her own. We know that,” the sheriff declared at a press conference.
Additionally, local police were also examining video evidence gathered from cameras on the victim’s home. Sheriff Nanos urged residents of the area to release footage from their own cameras and security systems. He also shared that the elderly woman lived alone but was supported by staff hired to help care for both her and the residence.e. Guthrie lives alone and hires staff to help care for her and her residence.
Following up after days of confusion and heartache, the younger Guthrie took to social media to update, though it was less of an update and more of an appeal for prayer. “We believe in prayer. We believe in voices raised in unison, in love, in hope. We believe in goodness. We believe in humanity. Above all, we believe in Him,” the news host wrote on Instagram.
Continuing, Guthrie wrote that she was appreciative of the broad support she received from her community. “Thank you for lifting your prayers with ours for our beloved mom, our dearest Nancy, a woman of deep conviction, a good and faithful servant. raise your prayers with us and believe with us that she will be lifted by them in this very moment. We need you,” the post further wrote.
Finally, Guthrie shared a pertinent Bible verse, with a brief passage from the Old Testament. “‘He will keep in perfect peace those whose hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord.’ A verse of Isaiah for all time for all of us. Bring her home,” she finished solemnly.
Responding to that powerfully vulnerable and aching post, thousands of commenters lined up to wish her prayers. “Praying that your dear mother is returned home safely & that you will be able to give her the biggest hug,” wrote one user.
“Sending so much love and my prayers haven’t stopped for your sweet mama. May god be with her and you all right now,” wrote another. “Praying. In the mighty name of Jesus. Praying peace by the power of the Holy Spirit and under the authority of OUR MIGHTY GOD-we are praying,” added a third.
