Vice President JD Vance exhibited an unapologetic view that Christianity is good for civilization in explicit support for religiosity while speaking with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. Vance made the remarks in the capital city of Budapest, while also adding that not only was Orban demonstrating the net good of focusing on Christian ethics but that the rest of the world should follow suit.
“There are so many ways in which the United States and Hungary have been great economic partners, and that partnership has really accelerated over the past couple of years under President Trump’s leadership. But ladies and gentlemen, I’m not here primarily Victor because of the economic cooperation between our countries,” Vance’s remarks began as he noted the relationship between the two nations.
“I’m here because of the moral cooperation between our two countries, because what the United States and Hungary together represent, under Victor’s leadership and under President Trump’s leadership, is the defense of Western civilization, the defense of the idea that children should be able to go to school and get educated and not indoctrinated,” he then said, as his comments segued into philosophy of governance and morality.
“The defense of the idea that European and American families should be able to transport themselves and be able to afford to heat and cool their homes, a defense of the idea that we are founded on a certain Christian civilization and Christian values and animate everything from freedom of speech to rule of law to respect for minority rights and protection of the vulnerable,” he continued.
“There is so much that unites the United States and Hungary and unfortunately, there have been too few people who have been willing to stand up for the values of Western civilization. Viktor Orban is the rare exception that has unfortunately proved the rule. That’s one of the reasons why I’m here. I’m here because Victor is a statesman,” he continued.

This is not the first time the vice president has delivered praise on Christianity on European soil. Toward the end of 2025, Vance was visiting Armenia to commemorate yet another peace deal arranged by President Donald Trump where he also spoke in explicit terms on the matter.
“JD Vance dropped extremely powerful words while visiting Armenia as part of a U.S. delegation, calling Christian civilization important not just for the West but the entire world. Incredibly, his visit to the beleaguered Christian nation marks the first time in American history that either a sitting president or vice president has made the sojourn,” the Christian Tribune wrote at the time of the event.
“This is one of the oldest Christian countries in the entire world, the true bedrock of Christian civilization and culture,” he stated during a speech alongside Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. “As a devout Christian myself, I know the meaning of this country to the entire world and to the religion that the Prime Minister and I share. So to the people of Armenia and the great Prime Minister, I want to thank you for your partnership. President Trump is committed to this partnership, and so am I, and we’re thrilled to be here to take the next step. God bless you.”
