The daughter-in-law of the late ‘Duck Dynasty’ patriarch and icon Phil Robertson opened up about how the passing of the television legend and celebrated Christian gave her a real-world way to explain some of the biggest concepts of religion and life with her young children, as she had to navigate faith, death, and hope in the wake of his death.
For context, Phil Robertson passed away on May 25th, 2025 from complications related to a blood disorder and Alzheimer’s disease at the age of 79. Just a month prior, his family had indicated that his time was short and that doctors were making his life comfortable as the various illnesses progress.
Speaking to Fox News Digital, the younger Sadie Robertson Huff shared that despite the enormous pain and loss felt by the family, their faith also gave them comfort and reasurrance knowing the elder Robertson was up in Heaven.
“As parents, we’ve been having those conversations of like, making sure they understand why, why we celebrate, why this is a big day, why this is important. And again, you tie in your real life experience, and you go, remember how we were able to even laugh and have fun when Papaw Phil died,” she related in the interview.
“That’s only because we had the hope of heaven, and we were remembering the stories of Papaw Phil and the way he lived his life for Jesus. And so it’s tying it all back. It’s making sure they understand how it all connects, but also have fun. You know, they are kids. Let’s do the thing. Let’s let’s Easter egg hunt. There’s nothing wrong with that, but making sure that they know why we do what we do,” she continued.
Reacting on Facebook on the Fox News page, comments agreed with the position taken Sadie. “She’s exactly right! My mother passed last month and someone told me that they were sorry for my loss. I quickly responded that she is a Christian, and her salvation is also a gift to her family. I replied that I have not really lost anyone yet! I only lose them if they don’t know Christ as their savior. That’s the peace of Christ!” one person responded.
“This is a beautiful example of living out the true meaning of Easter. Sadie Robertson Huff reminds us that the message of Jesus’ resurrection is about hope beyond death—even in personal loss like the passing of Phil Robertson,” wrote another.
Upon his passing, Willie and Korie Robertson, Phil’s son and daughter-in-law reported the passing in an emotional, joint message on their Instagram page. “We celebrate today that our father, husband, and grandfather, Phil Robertson, is now with the Lord. He reminded us often of the words of Paul, “you do not grieve like those who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him,” they wrote.
“Thank you for the love and prayers of so many whose lives have been impacted by his life saved by grace, his bold faith, and by his desire to tell everyone who would listen the Good News of Jesus. We are grateful for his life on earth and will continue the legacy of love for God and love for others until we see him again. We know so many of you love him and have been impacted by his life. We’re having a private service for now, but we’ll share details soon about a public celebration of his life,” the post concluded, before signing off with a Bible verse, 1 Corinthians 2.
