Representative Chip Roy (R-TX) asked a series of perfectly placed questions to expose the interim president and CEO of the Souther Poverty Law Center (SPLC) Bryan Fair’s ideologically-based targeting of organizations and politically-motivated cherrypicking of so-called hate groups.
For context, Fair was representing the SPLC during a heated House Judiciary Hearing meant to bring to light concerning spending totaling in the millions. The Trump Department of Justice, under new Attorney General Todd Blanche, recently secured an 11-count indictment alleging the far-left organization misled donors over fighting racism when in reality it was really just funding groups so that racism was kept alive and in the news.
Representative Roy left those larger legal issues aside as he questioned Fair on the nature of the SPLC and how it decides whom to label an extremist or hate group. Specifically, he took the famously anti-LGBT Muslim community and exposed the insane double standards leftists have as they champion both the LGBT community and Muslim religion.
“How many extremist Islamic groups do you have? Of the 1500 or so organizations you have on your hate map?” Roy directly asked, immediately getting a deflection that he could find the answer on the group’s website. However, Roy countered that he had indeed already checked the website and couldn’t find a single example of a Muslim group being labeled despite religiously-held disdain for the LGBT community.
Continuing, Roy asked: “You think SPLC could provide us a list of the Islamic-oriented groups do you have on your hate map?” After being assured that the SPLC doesn’t ‘target any group because of its religion,” and that the SPLC only “target[s] groups because they express statements and engage in activities that demean and villain,” Roy came in with the knock-out punch.
“You brought up LGBTQ groups a minute ago, right? So, you brought up LGBT groups a minute ago. So, you think there’s a bunch of Islamic groups that are pro-LGBTQ? Is that the position of the SPLC? I just want to make sure the record is reflecting that,” he said in the mic-drop moment.
Watch Roy’s masterful back and forth below:
As mentioned earlier, the Trump Department of Justice recently secured an indictment from an Alabama grand jury after enough evidence suggested the woke organization had been funding the very groups they purported to fight against.
“Federal Grand Jury Charges Southern Poverty Law Center for Wire Fraud, False Statements, and Conspiracy to Commit Money Laundering,” the headline from a DOJ press release stated. “Between 2014 and 2023, the SPLC secretly funneled more than $3 million in donated funds to individuals who were associated with various violent extremist groups including the Ku Klux Klan, Aryan Nations, and National Socialist Party of America,” it declared in the subheading.
“The SPLC is manufacturing racism to justify its existence,” said Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche. “Using donor money to allegedly profit off Klansmen cannot go unchecked. This Department of Justice will hold the SPLC and every other fraudulent organization operating with the same deceptive playbook accountable. No entity is above the law.”
“The SPLC allegedly engaged in a massive fraud operation to deceive their donors, enrich themselves, and hide their deceptive operations from the public,” said FBI Director Kash Patel. “They lied to their donors, vowing to dismantle violent extremist groups, and actually turned around and paid the leaders of these very extremist groups – even utilizing the funds to have these groups facilitate the commission of state and federal crimes. That is illegal – and this is an ongoing investigation against all individuals involved.”
