President Donald J. Trump invoked the Christian heritage of America beginning with the very first settlers to the new continent and all the way to its inception where the men who created the new nation mentioned God by name multiple time in the founding documents. The faith-based historical commentary came during the Faith and Freedom Coalition gathering held in Washington, D.C.
For context, the president’s remarks continued a long-standing celebration of the interconnectedness of Christianity and the American experiment. In speeches dating back to the Republican National Convention in the summer of 2024 and in national remarks since then, the 45th and 47th Commander-in-Chief has used to his public platform to delve into the history of the Founders, the importance of faith in the country, the hand God played in saving his life from attempted assassinations, and especially brought attention to the ant-Christian persecution seen around the world.
As it pertains to the latter, In fact, in the same speech in which he extolled the role the Christian faith played in animating both the settlers of Jamestown and the Founding Fathers in Philadelphia, President Trump went absolutely scorched earth on the ‘godless communists.
In any event, it was during a separate part of the speech that President Trump invoked the powerful faith of those who braved the unknown and settled foreign lands and created new nations. He even included his trademark humor about not being personally mentioned by the founders.
“From the very beginning of our country, American greatness has been forged by people of faith, and the very first settlers who set foot upon this new world at Jamestown got off their ship, raised up a cross, and bowed down to the Lord in prayer. It was faith that strengthened the Minutemen, and who stood up at Lexington Green and Concord Bridge in Philadelphia 250 years ago,” Trump remarked.
Continuing, he added: “Next week our founders invoked the Creator four times in the Declaration of Independence. Four times. I wasn’t mentioned once. I’m very upset, not once. Faith pushed the pioneers to journey west, faith led Americans to abolish slavery, and faith built this country into the most exceptional nation in the history of the world.”

In yet another part of the incredible speech delivered at the Faith and Freedom Coalition conference, Trump alluded to the successful ‘Rededicate 250’ program his administration hosted at the revamped National Mall. It was there that speakers and participants celebrated their shared faith, God, and His role in delivering the greatest country in the history of the world.
“Americans have always deeply believed in the promise of Christ’s words in the Gospel of Matthew— ‘with God, all things are possible.’ That’s why as we prepared to enter the 250th Year, last month, tens of thousands of patriots came together on our National Mall—and we officially rededicated America as One Nation Under God… We always have been—and we always will be,” Trump said.
