Hollywood Comes After C.S. Lewis’s The Magician’s Nephew

Nearly 15,000 signatories have already signed on from the organization ‘One Million Moms’ in response to woke Hollywood’s ‘blasphemous’ interpretation of the classic C.S. Lewis tale of The Magician’s Nephew. The reimagined story set in postwar London modernizes the classic introduction to the beloved fantasy-allegorical hybrid world of Narnia into a rock opera with a ‘gender-swapped’ Jesus Christ figure in Aslan.

“To Netflix Regarding Narnia,” wrote the organization on its website where it sought support through the signing of a petition demanding Netflix – the producer of the film – make changes honoring the Christian-rooted story. “As a parent and member of One Million Moms, I am highly offended that you have tainted the Narnia story in the upcoming film “Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew” to push a liberal agenda. It is extremely irresponsible to produce a blasphemous film and disrespectful to C.S. Lewis to destroy his beloved writings.”

“This move pushes away the target audience of Christians who have been supportive of the original Narnia collection. I urge Netflix to cancel this blasphemous film immediately or make the appropriate changes so that Aslan is portrayed as male and the themes remain as generations have come to know and love. Or write your own story with your own original characters. Otherwise, my family and I will not support this gender-swapping blasphemous film,” the petition part ends.

In a separate part of the website, an entire article is devoted to revealing the many changes made to the core of the story, particularly as it relates to Aslan. Interpretations of the character Aslan have almost universally accepted he is a stand-in for the male Messianic figure from Christian faiths. In the movie, however, this is changed to reflect both a woman and rainbow-themed ‘Ziggy Stardust’ figure rather than the brave lion from stories past.

“Warning! Netflix Has Tainted the Beloved Narnia Story in Upcoming Film,” the headline begins. “Alerting all parents! Do not trust the new Narnia movie! Greta Gerwig wrote and directed Netflix’s new adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ The Chronicles of Narnia, titled Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew. This is not a movie Christians want to see,” it states.

“Be forewarned that Greta Gerwig has hijacked C.S. Lewis’ classic fantasy novels and tainted the beloved story to push an agenda. In the original Chronicles of Narnia, Aslan was bold, brave, and revered for his great strength, authority, and sacrifice. This fictional character clearly symbolizes Jesus Christ. C.S. Lewis wrote, ‘I don’t say, let us represent Christ as Aslan. I say, supposing there was a world like Narnia, and supposing like ours, it needed redemption, let us imagine what sort of Incarnation and Passion and Resurrection Christ would have there,’” it continues.

“In Gerwig’s adaptation, Meryl Streep voices the remixed Aslan, tainting the Christ-like lion figure. Parents should pay close attention to how the film portrays Aslan. The new woke Narnia film not only gender-swaps Aslan with a female voice but also features cinematic and promo posters advertising this bold new, multicolored Aslan, which bears a striking resemblance to David Bowie’s ‘Ziggy Stardust,’ a bisexual rock star who mocked Christ and promoted himself as a messianic figure,” it goes on.

“Gerwig sets the film in postwar 1950s London and describes the film as a “rock opera” inspired by British rock stars like David Bowie. She secured the use of Led Zeppelin’s rock classic ‘Stairway to Heaven’ for the movie trailer, calling it an epic that explores themes of spiritual discovery, enlightenment, and the possibility of losing one’s way. TAKE ACTION: Please sign our petition urging Netflix to cancel this blasphemous film, ‘Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew,’ immediately or make appropriate changes to uphold the beloved Aslan traits fans have always known,” it ends.
