The city of Dearborn, Michigan is getting slammed yet again by local residents and online personalities for its intentional disregard of well-established ordinances prohibiting the use of external loudspeakers and limitation of decibel levels when such speakers are used. The Detroit suburb is the first city in America to have a majority-Muslim population and has several Muslims on its city council and has a Muslim mayor.
“Dearborn city council is again stalling action on mosques violating city ordinances. Two years of ‘we will take a look,’” wrote the 3.9 million follower account End Wokeness on X. “There are literally physical speakers on the exterior of the mosques (violation) yet the Dearborn City Council stalls,” the account added in a follow-up post.
“The City of Dearborn, Michigan is being slammed for actively SHIELDING Muslim mosques from city ordinances. Mosques have put loudspeakers on the outside of their buildings for the Islamic “call to prayer” as early as 5:30AM. Outrageous,” the assistant director of Florida Voice News captioned after sharing the same video.
The pertinent issue at hand as it pertains to the Muslim call to prayer – ignoring the larger religious, cultural, and political implications of increasingly diverse communities in America – is that the five-times-daily calls to prayer violate specific city rules banning the use of public loudspeakers as well as the volume when such calls are made.
A quick overview of the ordinance clearly demonstrates that mosques in Dearborn are in violation of both conditions of the ordinance, and for over two years residents have been stonewalled by the Muslims and liberals on the city council. “Dearborn’s city ordinance prohibits outdoor loudspeakers between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m., and noise levels are regulated to a maximum of 70 decibels in residential areas during the day and 60 decibels at night,” the ordinances declare.
In the short exhangfe posted online of a recent city council meeting, the chair of the council, a seeming member of Dearborn’s majority population, he admits the mosques have been in violation but acquiesces to his religious constituency nevertthelss. “We have to, we have to go by first there. The police is checking the decibel level, but I know what you’re saying. Regardless of the decibel level, there’s not supposed to be exterior speakers, and that’s what we have to look into,” he can be seen saying.
The female resident addressing these concerns concisely replies that he can just “look at the building and see them” rather than filibuster endlessly. At the end of the exchange, she throws up her hands and says she could come back in another two years and be told the same thing.
“I know you asked us last time, and we requested that because we asked if there was any permits, and there was no permits of record for those installations. So we have to find out people sometimes take into their own, own hand of doing something, and we have to, then, you know, react to it. So that’s what, that’s what you’re bringing forward to us, and we will definitely look into it,” he responded. Watch that clip below:
