Recently, an ancient mosaic was unveiled that reveals a profound reference to Jesus Christ’s deity. The piece of art, known as the Meggido Mosaic, is located near what is believed to be the site of the battle of Armageddon in Israel. It dates back to when the Roman Empire still ruled over the region and brutally persecuted Christians.
The Megiddo Mosaic once decorated one of the oldest Christian churches, which is now on display at the Museum of the Bible as part of an exhibition that concludes in July 2025. The mosaic depicts images of fish, a common symbol associated with Jesus in early Christianity, and a Greek inscription that says, “To God Jesus Christ,” clearly affirming the divine nature of Jesus Christ in the Holy Trinity.
The mosaic was originally discovered by Israeli archeologists in 2005 during an excavation. During the unveiling of the exhibit, Museum of the Bible CEO Carlos Campo noted that many believe the mosaic to convey the transformative power of the Bible.”
Urging onlookers to step back and view the mosaic, Campo said, “Because as I step back, I learn more about the power of this object and what it’s trying to say to me about ancient history, about the history of Christianity, about the place there at Megiddo in Israel, and so much more.”
The museum’s chief executive continued, “And so, that’s what we’ve come together today to celebrate, that this object really is a way for us to come together, a way for us to see that these tiny little tesserae, these tiny little chips, these beautiful pieces, when placed together, they tell a remarkable story of unity.”
Speaking about the amazing discovery of the ancient Christian relic, he added, “A remarkable story of a place that brought people in from many different areas, and yet they shared enough in common to understand that they were people who could celebrate, worship, and come together in peace. And it’s what we come together to celebrate today.”
