Speaking during an interview on Fox News Channel’s “Jesse Watters Primetime,” country music star Billy Ray Cyrus and his wife, Firerose Cyrus, spoke about the true meaning of the Easter season and the story behind their recent, faith-based single, “After the Storm.” During the message about Easter, Cryus quoted Scripture to help convey his message.
Particularly, Cyrus pointed to one of the most famous Bible verses, telling Watters, “John 3:16 says it best.” That verse, for reference, says, as Cyrus went on to quote, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, that whosoever shall believeth in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Kicking off his conversation with Cyrus, Watters brought up his new single, saying, “Billy Ray, you saw some of the charts in the introduction. You see all of these values that Americans used to share just falling off a cliff. What do you think’s happening to the country right now? And are we going to get it back?”
Responding, Cyrus gave a powerful take on what Easter means and what we should be thinking about, saying, “Well, Jesse, first of all, thanks for having us on the show. Happy Good Friday to you. You know what this day means? To all of us. It’s about the freedom and sacrifice again, being Good Friday, I’d be remiss to not also thank our veterans, again for our freedom, sacrifice. And to our Vietnam veterans out there. A lot of people don’t even know today is Vietnam Veterans Day. Appreciation. So to Don Vaughn Travis and all my buddies, Vietnam veterans, we thank you for our service and your sacrifice.”
Then, addressing Firerose Cyrus, Watters asked about music and what it means, asking, “What inspires you to write music to be a musician? Is it something you see? Something you hear? Something you feel? Tell us about the process?”
She said, “Thanks so much Jesse. First of all, it’s such an honor to be with you this evening of all evenings on this on this very sacred day. And you’re so beautifully expressing what is going on in our world and our country, especially because, to me, music has always been an expression of what’s in my soul. And really, it’s just about trying to reiterate that through the songs that we write that we see him perform, and we can reach people on a level that, you know, obviously God reaches us and we can share that and we can share his light and his love with others through the gift of music. And so, it I know for for myself as an artist, it’s my purpose in life to spread the word and to you know, it’s a good word and it’s a good Friday to get to be here with you.”
Watters then turned back to Billy Ray, asking, “Y’all that’s great. Billy Ray, anything you want to tell America on this Good Friday, a lot of people look up to you idolize you, you do spread the message. Spread a lot of great energy around this country all over the world.”
That’s when he brought out the JOhn 3:16 reference, saying, “John 3:16 says it best for God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever shall believe in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life. And with that thought, I pray blessings on our country, to our men and women. in uniform, and we just thank you all and everybody for your service status, your dedication to our country and our freedom.”
