Former CNN host Don Lemon was recently called out by Christians on social media over disrespectful comments toward the Virgin Mary’s husband, Joseph, which some have labeled as outright “blasphemy.” Lemon, a homosexual married to a man, claimed that Joseph may have been gay.
According to Lemon’s analysis during an episode on the Micahel Steele Podcast, Lemon suggested that Joseph may have been a homosexual who took the Virgin Mary, who was pregnant and unmarried, and smuggled her to Bethlehem so the two could avoid mutual persecution.
“Should I tell them what I said?” Lemon asked Steele. “Yeah, go ahead,” the host replied while laughing. “I said, well, maybe Joseph was this sort of gay guy who said…’I don’t want her to die or be stoned to death, or whatever because she got pregnant and she’s not married…and then I am not married, or whatever. So, okay, this is kind of perfect.’”
Steele weighed in, “Because he was an older gentleman, unmarried gentleman.” The former CNN host then said, “Yes, and so it’s kind of perfect. And so he took her out of her town and took her to Bethlehem.” Steele then said, “And he got out of that town, too!” Lemon concluded, “I’m just saying.”
Users on social media did not take kindly to the speculation surrounding the biblical account that led up to the birth of Jesus Christ. “Blasphemy,” conservative commentator Gunther Eagleman wrote. “This is a stunning display of sheer vile ignorance by two men who sadly have an audience. It is about to decline sharply. 68% of Americans identify as Christians. They will immediately see this for what it is – blasphemy. All words from Steele and Lemon now known to be false,” another person wrote.
One user offered a lengthy prayer to Mary, which began, “Mary, my Immaculate Mother, I desire to offer you reparation for the offenses which your Immaculate Heart receives from the horrible blasphemies which are uttered against you. I offer you these praises to console you for so many ungrateful children who so not love you, and to console the Heart of your Divine Son Who is so deeply offended by the insults offered to you.
The prayer continued, “Receive, my Purest mother, this little act of homage. Make me love you more each day and look with pity on those blasphemers that they may not delay to cast themselves into your maternal arms. Amen. V. Grant that I may praise you, O Holy Virgin. R. Give me strength against your enemies. Blessed be the great Mother of God, Mary Most Holy. Blessed be her holy and Immaculate Conception. Blessed be her glorious Assumption. Blessed be the name of Mary, Virgin and Mother. Blessed be her Immaculate Heart. Blessed be her Virginal Purity. Blessed be her Divine Maternity. Blessed be her Universal Mediation. Blessed be her sorrows and her tears. Blessed be the graces with which the Lord crowned her Queen of Heaven and Earth. Glory be to Mary, Daughter of the Father, Glory be to Mary, Mother of the Son, Glory be to Mary, Spouse of the Holy Spirit. My Mother, I love you for those who do not love you; I praise you for those who blaspheme you; I surrender myself to you for those who will not recognize you as their Mother.”
