Who is Clark Hunt? Well, for one, he’s the owner and CEO of the Kansas City Chiefs, making him quite relevant given the Chiefs’ astounding comeback victory in Super Bowl LVIII. He’s also a former investment banker and the grandson of oil tycoon HL Hunt. But, more importantly than all that, he’s a faithful Christian who, like numerous members of his team, hasn’t hesitated to put his faith first.
Such could be seen after the Chiefs’ Sunday win, with Hunt praising the Lord when handed the Lombardi Trophy. He said, “I want to thank the Lord for giving us this opportunity.” He continued, “It’s been an amazing five-year run.”
Further, during the Sunday night game, Mr. Hunt was, Sports Spectrum reports, wearing a Bible verse-themed bracelet on his wrist. The bracelet displayed “Matthew 25:21,” which reads, “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!'”
But while that was a great way for Mr. Hunt to work his faith into the Super Bowl celebrations, it was far from the first time that he has spoken about his faith when given the opportunity. For example, after he was seen praying with his family on field before this season’s playoff game against the Baltimore Ravens, he was asked about prayer and said, “It’s one of the cornerstones of my faith and anyone who’s a Christian.” He added, “God is faithful, and even though He knows what’s on my heart, I need to share it with Him because it draws me closer to Him.”
Further, after his team won that game and snagged its 4th Lamar Hunt trophy, so named after Mr. Hunt’s father, Mr. Hunt gave the glory to God yet again. He said, “First of all, I want to give God the glory and congratulate the Ravens on an amazing year.”
Watch him here:
Similarly, after the Chiefs won the Super Bowl in 2021, Mr. Clark said, “I’m so honored to accept this trophy on behalf of this incredible team, and the best fans in the National Football League. The Lord has blessed our family in so many ways. Coach (Andy) Reid, what a game today. Great job today. My dad would love the grit and determination of this team.”
And Mr. Hunt’s statements about Christ, God, and the Lord Above come alongside demonstrable actions on his part that have helped members of the team develop in their faith. For example, speaking in 2019 to the Tyler Morning Telegraph, Mr. Hunt spoke about how he made sure chaplains are part of the Chiefs organization, and that there is a chapel service for people at the Chiefs’ home games. Commenting on the reasons for that, he said, “We want our employees to develop spiritually.” He added, “In the National Football League, Christ is really glorified. My identity is my faith in Christ.”
The team’s chaplain, speaking in 2020 about the Hunt family, said, “I remember as a little kindergartner in the parking lot meeting Lamar Hunt and just how cordial and kind and loving he was with my father . . . And you just see that legacy throughout the whole family with Clark and his wife, Tavia, and all the Clark siblings. It’s really a family environment. It’s really a faith-filled environment at the stadium and with their family. So it makes it really easy as a chaplain to have a positive impact with the players and with the coaches.”
