Speaking to the Christian Post in an interview, longtime actor and outspoken Christian Mark Wahlberg explained why he seeks guidance from God daily. Particularly, he noted that he wants to seek God’s guidance on all of the projects he tackles, and that doing so has been one of the key ways he handles big decisions for decades, always starting his day by asking for God to guide him.
Wahlberg noted that doing so has helped him make it through “everything” in life, as it’s important to be reminded of and thinking about what God wants. Particularly, he noted that being filled with gratitude, even when suffering from emotional pain or sadness from being away from one’s family, and that the guidance that comes from constant prayer helps him choose the right path.
He explained, “[Prayer] has been a big part of the way I start my day for decades now.” He continued, “It helps me get through everything, especially to remind me of what I’m trying to do on a daily basis. I’m away from home, I miss my family, so it’s got to start with gratitude.”
Continuing, Wahlberg went on to add, “And then also, the guidance and the reminder to continue to do the things that He wants me to do and the path that He wants me to take, because I’ll always have a plan, and He changes that quite often.”
And, in addition to seeking God’s guidance, he thinks about whether the roles he plays are ones his family would want: “I can’t help but think that every time I choose a role, is it something [my wife and kids] would want to see me in? Not so much would they approve, because … I haven’t played a bad guy for 20-something years, and I just did that recently. And I think my kids and wife will get a kick out of it, but I definitely think about if it’s something that they would enjoy seeing.”
Also during the interview, Wahlberg spoke out about why he chose to do his new movie “Arthur the King,” which is based on the true story of an adventure racer who befriended a homeless dog while on a race in the Dominican Republic. He said, “We were inspired and awestruck by what Michael and his team would do in these races for real, so we wanted to honor them.” He added, “And, of course, the responsibility that comes with telling their story is something that we take very seriously.”
Wahlberg also joked about trying to adopt the dog used in the movie at the behest of his kids, saying, “My kids said I am not allowed to come home without the dog [who plays Arthur], so I literally was naive enough to think that maybe there was a slight chance that his owner would part ways with them and allow me, because I’m the star of the movie, to take the dog home.”
Unfortunately for Wahlberg’s kids, the ploy did not work out: “So I did ask. I told my kids I asked him. Of course, I got a big ‘no.’ They looked at me like I was crazy. And I completely understood.” But at least he tried to make his kids happy with the attempt.
