The Christian aid organization Samaritan’s Purse has stepped in to support the Central Texas communities devastated by the recent flash floods, which caused the Guadalupe River to rise by nearly 30 feet in less than an hour. Samaritan’s Purse president Franklin Graham confirmed that a disaster relief unit and chaplains were on the scene beginning on July 8, 2025.
For background, starting on July 4, 2025, a massive flash flood struck Central Texas, leading to over 100 deaths, including campers and staff at a local Christian summer camp. On July 8, the Christian aid organization Samaritan’s Purse began cleanup and disaster relief efforts in Kerrville, Texas, according to a statement from the charity.
On its website, Samaritan’s Purse explained that its team started work in Kerrville, Texas, on July 8, adding that its volunteers “serve as the hands and feet of our Lord, helping homeowners with property cleanup and mud-outs.” The organization went on to say, “In all we do, we aim to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with hurting people.”
Moreover, the organization said that its disaster responders were being hosted by Kerrville Bible Church, a local congregation that was housing a disaster relief unit and auxiliary equipment. In addition, Samaritan’s Purse extended an invitation to volunteers and is actively accepting donations.
Furthermore, on Sunday, July 6, Samaritan’s Purse president Franklin Graham shared an update on his organization’s response to the disaster, saying, “This morning I joined Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem via phone from Alaska to pray for families gathered in a church in Kerrville, Texas, to await word about their missing children and loved ones. I read Scripture to them and prayed for them, and Secretary Kristi Noem prayed for them as well. ”
Continuing, Graham urged Christians to “continue to surround these devastated families and communities in prayer,” adding, “Also pray for the hundreds involved in search and rescue efforts with more rain predicted.” Furthermore, Graham said that chaplains had been dispatched by the Billy Graham Rapid Response team “to be there to pray with and minister to the hurting.”
In addition, Graham confirmed that the Samaritan’s Purse Disaster Relief Unit had been deployed, adding that volunteers were actively working “to help begin clean up (sic) efforts as soon as possible.” In a subsequent post, Graham called for prayer for Texans again, saying, “Please #PRAY for all those who are experiencing devastating loss as a result of the Texas floods. May God wrap His loving arms around them.”
In the wake of the flooding, the Kerr County, Texas, website announced that the area is “currently in a local state of disaster, due to extreme, life-threatening flooding that occurred overnight from heavy rains that fell Thursday, July 3, and overnight into Friday, July 4.” Continuing, the county added that emergency crews are “very active across the county responding to calls and rescues.”
