Christian-Based Hobby Lobby Doesn’t Sell Items For Halloween

Hobby Lobby founder David Green said he gave up millions of dollars in support of his Christian beliefs, but has never wavered on the decision to not sell Halloween merchandise at his over 1,000 location. Newsmax wanted to learn more about Green’s steadfast Christian beliefs. “Why doesn’t Hobby Lobby sell Halloween merchandise? Founder David Green says his Christian beliefs and integrity matter more than millions in potential sales. NEWSMAX correspondent Heather Myers explains,” a tweet wrote.

“Hobby Lobby has started this conversation nationwide over faith and Halloween after the founder David Green said that he turned away more than 22 million dollars in Halloween merchandise sales because of his religious beliefs,” the broadcast began.

“Good morning to you,” the female reporter, Heather Myers began on site with Green. “And American consumers are expected to spend a record-breaking 13 and a half billion dollars on Halloween items this year. That’s 400 million more dollars than last year, so some shoppers took to TikTok to question why Hobby Lobby isn’t cashing in on this.”

“That’s the Halloween hunting at Hobby Lobby. More like fall hunting because apparently they don’t do Halloween there. I don’t know why. There is no Halloween. There is Thanksgiving and Christmas. There is no Halloween. I’m so confused. Every year I go to Hobby Lobby, and I’m highly disappointed when there’s no Halloween. So I’m going to need somebody from Hobby Lobby to tell me why you stopped making it,” they said.

“So those are just some of the many videos on social media where shoppers are wondering where the Halloween items are. I went over to a Hobby Lobby store here in San Diego and confirmed that there is not one Halloween item on the shelves. Instead, you will find all fall-themed items like pumpkins, scarecrows, and leaves. In interviews, the Hobby Lobby founder, 84-year-old David Green, says Halloween has become a dark holiday and a celebration of death that’s not honoring God, he says,” they said.

“Too many items feature blood and gore, and Halloween is not the only holiday that’s been dropped in the past few years from the store’s seasonal lineup. They also discontinued Hanukkah and Mardi Gras merchandise with previous statements to media outlets claiming it was due to the need to make room for stronger selling product categories. David Green told the popular Instagram page The School of Hard Knocks that the decision to not sell any Halloween merchandise has cost him financially, but not spiritually,” they said.

“Will never compromise your Christian faith or your integrity for more money,” she added.

“I would not. And there’s a lot of things that we’ve done not selling Halloween. We used to sell Halloween, and every one of them that I can think of has cost us money in the short term, but in the long term, God has blessed our company,” Green responded.

“Well, another decision that the company made: all 1,100 Hobby Lobby stores are closed on Sundays, every single Sunday, because the founder, who you just heard from, says he wanted to give his employees the opportunity to go to church. Reporting live in San Diego. I’m Heather Myers, Newsmax,” the report finished.

Reacting on social media, many users enthusiastically agreed. “AMEN!!! It’s about time that a CALIFORNIA reporter, ACTUALLY has a story that Christians can get behind. This was a wonderful post!! Thank you NEWSMAX for bring us a story that we can walk away with that feel good feeling! TY! And OF COURSE your non-biased reporting all day long! American Patriots really appreciate it. I’m so glad you got rid of the person posting here on X a few months ago!!” one person wrote.

“Good and I praise Hobby Lobby owner for not doing that because I really don’t think there’s gonna be that many people shopping for Halloween with today’s economy anyways,” a second user added. “I’m glad they don’t sell Halloween merchandise. I like fall decorations and do not like Halloween decor. Kudos to him for listening to the Lord on that subject. Nothing wrong with that,” a third said.
