Earlier this week, Vice President Kamala Harris announced her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. Subsequently, Christian leaders throughout the country have reacted to the selection, many offering criticism as the modern left’s policy positions and rhetoric become seemingly hostile toward Christianity.
As the election approaches, the battle for evangelical leaders heats up, where former President Donald Trump has vowed to fight for Christians if reelected, while warning of the consequences continuing down the current path. Simultaneously, reports suggest that Democratic organizations and billionaires such as George Soros have attempted to infiltrate the evangelical church to sway voters.
Hispanic evangelical figure Rev. Samuel Rodriguez and Minnesota megachurch pastor pastor Robert Ketterling reacted to Walz, writing in a joint statement, “By choosing Tim Walz, Kamala Harris has effectively alienated independent and moderate voters — an electoral demographic crucial for winning battleground states like Pennsylvania, Nevada, Arizona, and North Carolina.”
The church leaders further criticized the Minnesota governor, writing, “Walz has signed laws restricting free speech for pastors, made derogatory comments about conservatives, and embraced socialism — all of which make him an unappealing choice for those in the political center. His lack of likability, often coming across as angry and on the edge of violence, only exacerbates his inability to connect with a broader electorate.”
“In conclusion, Kamala Harris’ selection of Governor Tim Walz as her running mate is a critical misstep,” they concluded. “For a campaign that needs to bridge divides and attract a broad coalition of voters, Tim Walz is unequivocally the wrong choice,” they concluded.
Conservative Christian influence Allie Beth Stuckey weighed in on the decision from the vice president, writing, “Harris’s & Walz’s records show us exactly what they stand for,” She said. The podcaster substantiated her argument, adding, “School shutdowns, vaccine & mask mandates – Soft-on-crime policies that support violent riots & repeat criminals – Mandating men have access to girls’ bathrooms – Abortion through all 9 months, paid for by the taxpayer – Stifling free speech in service to LGBTQ & abortion lobbies – Open border policy that will result in 1,000 more Laken Rileys – Economic policy that causes more inflation Under them, you’ll be poorer, less safe & less free. But at least they’ll make sure doctors can kill full-term babies.”
Faith & Freedom Coalition also issued a statement on Walz addressing Walz’ far-left policies.“In the coming days, the Democratic Party will try to recast Tim Walz as a centrist, ignoring his track record as the most left-wing governor in Minnesota’s history. Walz’s Minnesota has become an oasis for left-wing radicals, pro-abortion Democrats, criminals, and illegal immigrants, while hard-working Americans and faithful Christians have been hung out to dry,” the group said.
It continued, “As Governor, he enshrined abortion through all nine months of pregnancy, enacted the ‘Trans Refuge’ bill to criminalize therapy for same-sex attracted individuals and promote access to sex-change surgeries and cross-sex hormone treatments for minors, even inviting a 12-year-old ‘transgender’ child to be present at the bill signing. Equally concerning is Walz’s targeting of parochial schools, whose ability to offer free college credits to high school students he ended if they required students to sign a statement of faith. And let’s not forget his weak leadership during the 2020 riots when Walz allowed Minneapolis to burn for three days before calling in the National Guard. Simply put, Tim Walz cannot be counted on to stand up to protect communities when they need it most. He cannot be counted on to protect people of faith. In many ways, his policies and leadership are ruining Minnesota and as Kamala Harris’ Vice President, he would do the same thing to our nation.”
