The fast food restaurant Culver’s launched a special charity event to benefit the survivors of Abundant Life Christian School. According to the manager of the Verona location, “We definitely knew we were going to be busy. We just didn’t think we were going to be as busy as it was.” Local news reported that wait times ranged from 45 minutes to upwards of an hour and a half.
The drive-thru line was over a mile long. 25% of the proceeds raised went to the United Way of Dane County’s ALCS emergency recovery fund. The manager wasn’t surprised by the outpouring of support. “Anytime it involves kids and especially a tragic event like a school shooting, you know, really touched the hearts of everyone, [it’s] really important that we all support and surround and support and love wherever we can,” she said.
She added, “We do not have a number yet, but I can tell you it was a record-breaking day, the biggest day we’ve ever seen.” United Way is also partnering with a Texas Roadhouse in Madison WI for another fundraiser. Currently, the amount raised is $243,460. According to United Way, the money will be distributed directly to ALCS to use as they see fit” with no administrative fees.
