Former President Donald Trump recently rallied Christian voters at a conference for conservative and evangelical voters. Trump delivered comments to the Faith & Freedom Coalition’s annual Road to Majority conference ahead of his highly anticipated debate against President Joe Biden later this week.
The conference was packed with over a thousand attendees. “Nobody’s going to be watching the debate on Thursday night, right?” Trump joked with the crowd, bringing out laughter. “Christians don’t vote that much. You don’t have to vote in four years, but you have to vote this time,” he added jokingly.
Trump doubled down, emphasizing that Christians must show up at the ballot box in November and vote for their interests. The presumptive GOP presidential nominee also touched on other hot-button issues in the Christian community, such as the federal government restricting the right to gather and worship during the pandemic.
“Never again will the federal government be used to target Americans of faith,” Trump said. He further called out the weaponization of the federal government, where he was faced with incessant prosecution ahead of the presidential election. Trump was recently found guilty on all 34 felony charges brought against him in the hush money trial in New York City.
However, Trump maintained that he would not permit the government to restrict the religious freedoms the United States was founded on. “They want to take away my freedom because I will never let them take away your freedom,” Trump said.
The Christian Tribune reported on other remarks from former President Trump at the faith-based conference, where he continually urged Christian voters to vote, not just for him, but against the schemes of the Democratic Party. “We need Christians to turn out in the largest numbers ever to tell Crooked Joe Biden … ‘Joe, you’re fired,’” Trump said.
The former president continued, illustrating how parts of the left are becoming increasingly hostile toward Christians and their values. At one point in his speech, he offered a dire prediction for the state of faith in America, suggesting that it would be “in tatters” if Biden wins the election.
“The radical left is trying to shame Christians, silence you, demoralize you and they want to keep you out of politics. They don’t want you to vote. That’s why you have to vote,” he stressed. “If you vote, we cannot lose. They don’t want you to vote. But Christians cannot afford to sit on the sidelines. If Joe Biden gets in, Christianity will not be safe in a nation with no borders, no laws, no freedom, no future.”
Continuing on the topic of the apparent weaponization of the federal government, Trump also claimed Biden is attempting to persecute pro-life Christian activists who seek to exercise their freedom of speech to protest the evils of abortion.
“Joe Biden is weaponizing the Justice Department to viciously persecute pro-life activists and Americans of faith,” Trump said. “Never again will the federal government be used to target religious believers,” he said, opining that “Americans of faith are not a threat to our country; Americans of faith are the soul of our country.”
