According to his family, Phil Robertson, the Patriarch of the family behind Duck Dynasty, is doing better after a serious health scare. We’d previously reported on Robertson’s ongoing health crisis. His family says that after they went public with the news and asked for prayers, his condition improved.

According to Jase Robertson, when the family decided to go public with their father’s condition, “his spirit became better. I just really believe now more than ever in the power of prayer, and you get as many people [as possible] praying for my dad, and we’re very grateful for that. “I was thinking that he only had a few days to live,” he said.

“When we went public with it, I was amazed because I took my son down there and he was like, ‘Well, he’s doing a lot better than I thought. This is the best I’ve seen him in months.”He says he has an explanation for the turnaround: “I just chalked it up to answered prayer. There’s a spirit about him that’s at peace.”Al Robertson, the eldest son of the family, described Phil’s condition as “day-to-day. So, one day, he may be a little bit stronger mentally and physically than another day.”

At the time of the last update, we reported on how Phil’s son, Willie Robertson, said ” He is “battling many different things at the same time,” but is “sharp as ever” when it comes to his knowledge of the scripture. He went on to explain exactly what Phil’s medical issues are to Fox “He’s got a blood disorder, and then he’s got the mental issues that could be early [on-set] Alzheimer’s … and probably some mini-strokes because of his blood.”

He expanded his comments: “And so, it could be some stroke stuff happening, that has happened. So, we’re still checking on all that. But then he also has a back issue, he’s fractured his back and that’s where the pain’s at. So, he’s kind of battling many different things at the same time.“ “It’s hard with the mental stuff,” Willie explained. “It’s hard to determine exactly what these causes are, especially with early signs, it’s hard to determine brain damage from stroke or is that Alzheimer’s?”

Despite his medical woes, the head of the family is still “as sharp as ever” when it comes to his faith and knowledge of the Bible, according to his son. He explained “He goes right back to that, and so we find those are things that seem to comfort him. He still quotes the Bible and still talks about his faith in God, so I think that’s been comforting and something that he hasn’t lost yet.”

According to his son, “He can’t speak like he used to and teach his class, and so he’s kind of taking a break from that and his podcast and stuff. But it’s still strong and vital to him, he just can’t always make the words and thoughts that I think he wants to make.“ Despite suffering serious health issues, Phil Robertson is sticking to his faith.

To explain more details, Willie Roberson said: “His faith is such an important part of his life. And life is short and temporary, and he’s always known that. And we’ve always had such an eternal perspective, really, on life itself. We’re not sad, we realize this is, you know, these are things that happen on this Earth, and we deal with them.” Despite the very real health concerns, the Robertson family is resolute.
