The “Evangelicals for Harris” movement has recently made headlines for attacking former President Trump and his supporters. Most recently, the organization has quoted a passage from the Bible indicating that Trump is a “false prophet” in a newly released provocative ad.
The group quoted from 1 John 4, which reads, “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see if they are from God.” Following the piece of scripture, the ad featured a compilation of out-of-context clips of former President Trump, making provocative statements.
Journalist David Brody wrote on about the ad on X, stating, “Evangelicals For Harris is releasing their second media spot in as many weeks, this time using biblical text in 1 John 4 that mentions false prophets and how Christians are to, “test the spirits to see if they are from God.” The implication and context are pretty clear: they want Evangelicals to ask themselves if Trump fits the characteristics of a false prophet.”
Brody highlighted the Christian community’s rift regarding the polarized state of politics. “This ad is no doubt going to ruffle some conservative evangelical feathers. Those who support Trump see him as someone promoting biblical values when it comes to policy. They’ll also mightily argue that it’s actually the Christian Left that is spreading a false presentation of the biblical message. However, Evangelicals For Harris wants Christian voters to question what they believe is a rhetoric that lacks “Christian Witness” and is fully void of the, “Love Thy Neighbor” Biblical Commandment,” he said.
The journalist argued that Evangelicals for Harris not trying to win the Christian vote per se, given the statistical impossibility of doing so. However, if the vice president can win over a fraction of skeptical evangelicals, it could pull just enough votes for her to beat Trump in a tight race.
Brody cited statistics from Pew Research which illustrated that “among Trump’s base of White Evangelical Protestant Voters, 37 percent see him as a “GREAT” president; 37% say he’s been a “GOOD” one. But here’s the key: 9 percent considered him just AVERAGE; 6 percent said he was a POOR president and 10 percent said TERRIBLE. Totaled together, that’s 25 percent of Conservative Evangelicals who are relatively swingable/majorly lukewarm at best.”
The Christian Tribune recently reported on Jerushah Duford, the granddaughter of the famous Rev. Billy Graham, who endorsed Kamala Harris in a recent Evangelicals for Harris meeting, defying the longstanding tradition of conservatism in the Graham family.
Furthermore, Franklin Graham, slammed Evangelicals for Harris for another recent ad that used his father Billy Graham’s face in a video meant to portray Trump in a negative fashion. Graham maintained that his father would have been a conservative Trump supporter if he were still alive.
“The liberals are using anything and everything they can to promote candidate Harris,” Graham said in the post. “They even developed a political ad trying to use my father [Billy Graham’s] image. They are trying to mislead people. Maybe they don’t know that my father appreciated the conservative values and policies of President [Trump] in 2016, and if he were alive today, my father’s views and opinions would not have changed.”
