Representative John James (R-MI) called for the cessation of taxpayer money being sent to Nigeria on account of continued aggression towards Christians and their communities, the result of which has left scores dead and hundreds of churches burned to the ground. He said so long as violence against Christians prevails then the government doesn’t deserve American aid.
For context, as The Christian Tribune has previously written, estimates range from a staggering 50,000 to 100,000 systematic and targeted killings of Christians just since Barack Obama entered office. Tens of thousands of churches have been burned and destroyed. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) has declared the crisis as a “religious genocide” and President Trump stated bluntly that “Christianity is facing an existential threat” in the African nation in previous denunciation of the atrocities.
Speaking from the podium on the House chamber floor, Rep. James called out the ongoing targeting of Christians in his forceful remarks. “Nigeria is the deadliest place on earth to be a Christian today. Since 2019, 10s of 1000s of Christians in Nigeria have been slaughtered as part of a sustained pattern of religiously motivated violence by Islamist jihadis ignored or enabled by the Nigerian government,” he said.
“Extremist groups like Boko Haram are allowed to operate without any meaningful response from authorities. A courageous leader named Mazi Namdi Kanu was convicted in a farce show trial for speaking out about what’s happening. He’s currently serving a life sentence in prison, convicted on false terrorism charges,” he added.
“I implore my colleagues to support my bill H. Res 1321, calling on the Nigerian government to conduct another trial in accordance with its own constitution, based on evidence, with access to legal counsel, medical care, and international law pertaining to humane conditions of detention, or better yet, release Mazi Namdi Kanu immediately and unconditionally. America gives billions to Nigeria. We will not continue to fund a Christian genocide. We have the moral obligation to stand up so our Christian brothers and sisters can worship the Lord our God in peace,” he finished.

As referenced, President Donald Trump has likewise delivered powerful remarks against the violence against Christians. “Tonight, at my direction as Commander in Chief, the United States launched a powerful and deadly against ISIS terrorist scum in Northwest Nigeria, who have been targeting and viciously killing, primarily, innocent Christians, at levels not seen for many years, and even Centuries!” the president posted to Truth Social.
He then indicated the strikes did not have to take place, but seeing as the targeted harassment and killing of Nigerian Christians did not end, he had no chance but to follow through on his promise to end it for them. Reports vary on the number of casualties, but the administration suggests they achieved what they set out to.
“I have previously warned these Terrorists that if they did not stop the slaughtering of Christians, there would be hell to pay, and tonight, there was. The Department of War executed numerous perfect strikes, as only the United States is capable of doing,” he continued.
Finishing the post, he even wished the dead terrorists a “Merry Christmas” in pure Trump flair.
“Under my leadership, our country will not allow Radical Islamic Terrorism to prosper. May God Bless our Military, and MERRY CHRISTMAS to all, including the dead Terrorists, of which there will be many more if their slaughter of Christians continues.”
