Patrick Mahomes, the MVP quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs, led his team back from a dismal first half in Super Bowl LVIII to an incredible victory, taking the lead with just 13 seconds left on the clock and eventually beating the San Francisco 49ers in an overtime nail biter. They won 25 to 22. After the victory, Mahomes told millions of watchers that he was giving God the glory for the victory.
That came when Mahomes, celebrating the win and taking home his third Super Bowl MVP award, making him the third player ever to do so, spoke to the cameras about the victory. Making the win all the more notable was that it was the Chiefs’ second Super Bowl win in as many years, making them the first team in nearly two decades to score back to back Super Bowl wins.
In any case, excitedly speaking to the cameras as fans roared with celebratory applause, Mahomes said, “I just gotta give God the glory, man.” Continuing, he said, “It means a ton. Just the adversity we dealt with this year and to come through. The guys never faltered.” He added, “I give God the glory. He challenged us to make us better. I am proud of my guys. They did awesome. Legendary.”
He then spoke about not just celebrating the win but getting ready to win te championship again next year for a “three-peat,” saying, “I am going to celebrate tonight, celebrate at the parade, and then work my way to get back in this game next year. I am going to do whatever I can to be back in this game next year. Three-peat.”

And Mahomes wasn’t the only one to give the glory to God after the awesome win. Chiefs owner Clark Hunt did so as well when he received the Vince Lombardi Trophy on stage, saying, “First of all I want to congratulate [head coach] Andy [Reid], the football team, our coaching staff on an incredible performance. It’s been an amazing five-year run.” He then said, “I want to thank the Lord for giving us this opportunity.”
Hunt has made his faith public before. For example, before the Chiefs played the Ravens, he and his family prayed on the field. Posting about that, sports anchor for Fox Kansas City Harold Kuntz said, “Clark Hunt and family with a prayer before the game as the Chiefs look to retain the trophy named in his father’s honor. #Chiefs”
Speaking about praying, Mr. Hunt said, CBN reports, “It’s one of the cornerstones of my faith and anyone who’s a Christian.” Mr. Hunt then added, “God is faithful, and even though He knows what’s on my heart, I need to share it with Him because it draws me closer to Him.”
Similarly, when the Chiefs won in 2021, Mr. Hunt said, “I want to thank the Lord for blessing our family with all these incredible people who have helped us bring this championship home. To the Chiefs kingdom, you guys are world champions once again.”
